Had a quick go last night, one tough mama.
Are there clear indications of when you get to a new level (i.e. letters on the screen saying "Level 2 etc.)? Made it to what I think is the level 2 boss, that winged dude throwing hadoukens, with less than 40k points.

That's the level one boss! At end of each stage there is a clear "End of Stage X" message and a short map-scroll to the next stage.Nyukki wrote:Had a quick go last night, one tough mama.

Playing it on the PSP using PicoDrive v1.51. For some reason it doesn't show the high score so I don't have a pic.

Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2014 (April - Gaiares)
Despite the difficulty, I hope people find ways to enjoy this game.
When I was a kid, this was my real introduction to the genre and I spent hours with this one working to beat it within the provided number of lives/continues. I'll try and get some runs in for score, but I doubt my ability to 1cc it
. Still, it is worth playing through to the end as some of the last levels are amazing and feature great, large sprites on the Genesis.

Alternately, you can play around with level select, settings, and cheats for fun:

Died on the Stage 2 boss, because the weapon I'd picked up (the spread beam leached from the Stage 2 dragon mid-boss) did absolutely nothing against the boss's first form (clam thing). The only way I could damage it was by getting a pixel or two away from the boss, so that the option was inside it, touching the orange bit. So, died there. Which was nice. Got the T-Braster on the next life and beat the boss, though. Stage 3 is a bit dull.

So far it seems to be. Takes out nearly everything on the screen. Not nearly as effective at the part in Mission 2 where you have to clear a path to the boss. G-Beam seems to work better, plus it's good on the boss. You also have to obtain it on every stage. Too bad the checkpoints are brutal. Still pretty fun, it probably made a big impression to early Genesis owners.dsheinem wrote:The T-Braster is your friend![]()

No respectable score to post.
Checkpoint shmups kill me.
Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2014 (April - Gaiares)
True dat. Would be great if there was a romhack where dying wouldn't take you back to the checkpoint.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Checkpoint shmups kill me.
Only checkpoint shmup I have time for is Gradius, purely for nostalgia reasons. But still will try and get an at least half respectable score for this one up on the boards.
