Lucky for me, I had a court date (don't jump to conclusions) and a business meeting yesterday, so I didn't have to take any real time off of work. One went spectacular, and one did not.

My court date (it was for speeding) was set for 8:30am, and there was a line out the courtroom as if people wanted to be there. After two policemen, a custodian, and a lawyer confuse me for a lawyer, I find my way into the courtroom (I heard "You look like a lawyer" several times, which actually was kind of weird). The judge announces "If you are looking for a continuance, have a lawyer, or want to plead guilty stand on the right. If you wish to speak with an assistant DA, please stand on the left".

As some of you know, I'm kind of a take action guy. I walk up straight to the judge (not one bailiff batted an eye) showed him my speeding ticket and said "This is my first trip to the rodeo. I've got a speeding ticket I would like dismissed, what line do you want me in?". He simply responded "left".

After a few minutes waiting in line and listening to some very intriguing cases, I met with the assistant DA (or assistant to the DA, I'm not sure). He asks what I want to accomplish my coming to court, and then it hits me... I've met this kid at a party about a year ago. I ask if he went to Campbell University, and sure enough he tells me that he swears he knows me. He drops (dismisses) the ticket completely, and explains that there is no way around paying court costs, but that he can reduce them to $21, but to make sure I have exact change.

I felt like I just hit a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth. It may be a pedestrian accomplishment, but to avoid a huge fine and an increase on insurance is pretty damned sweet.

That is a great accomplishment. I have been to court like 4 times. Once for an accident, and I just wanted to get the points taken off. The people I hit showed up to defend me and one was a huge black guy I thought was going to kick my ass. Turns out he was a bass player and we sat in court talking about music the whole time. Awesome. Another memorable time was once when I had a horrible stomach virus. I was in the bathroom the whole time waiting and at one point a prisoner, orange jumpsuit and guard and all, was in there and he very politely asked if I was okay and needed help. I hope he got off easy for whatever he did.

Happy: I got my copy of Pier Solar today!
Sad: There's something wrong with either the game or my system; the music keeps getting stuck.
