I'm thinking it might be the USB sound card.

As for the phantom power adapter, it was mentioned in various reviews for my microphone. Many of those reviews also mention replacing the included USB sound card.

You're throwing good money after bad. You should cut your losses, return the borked mic to Amazon, and get a decent mic from a known brand.

I just found the link to the mic a few pages back, and I agree, you should return it.

How do YOU know the microphone is bad?

But how's this? I'll buy a new USB sound card and if that doesn't solve it, then I'll concede that this particular microphone is defective and THEN, and ONLY THEN, I will buy a new microphone from a "real" company that sells more or less the same product but charge more for the brand.

And no, I will NOT be clicking on any links you give me because I'm pretty sure someone here's got an affiliate link they're itching to send me.

Because you told everyone it’s not working, genius. Watch your attitude when you reach out for help.

I've also said that many reviews actively slammed the included USB sound card and that many reviews actually praised the device. In fact, almost 3000 reviews have 5-stars and many of them say to use phantom power, like in this video review from PaganLinuxGeek, and many say to replace the included USB sound card.

Granted there ARE 1-star reviews that decry many of my complaints but nothing beyond a brief sentence that amounts to it being trash.

If you have to replace an included component to get it to work, then the microphone is bad.

Again, we all think you’re throwing good money after bad. It’s your money, however, and you are free to (and often do) waste it. When you reach out for advice and help, however, you should be a bit nicer when responding to them (e.g., avoid arguing).

tldr: Don't be a dick when we give you advice just because you don't like the advice. Some of us have jumped through these kinds of hoops before and know what's up. But you go waste your time and money. You do you.

I just don't want to spend $50-60 on a new microphone and end up with the same problem or finding out that my problem could have been solved by spending a fraction of the money.

I'll suggest again that a cheap thing to try would be to see if you see the same problem with the microphone if you use it on a laptop that is operating on battery power.

I know you are running a desktop, but I am betting that someone in your family uses a laptop.

The goal of this experiment is to eliminate your PC's power supply as a possible source for the tone you are hearing.
