SNES Classic coming September 29th
Re: SNES Classic coming September 29th
I actually own all of them, except the one no one can own yet -- Star Fox 2. That's why I want it primarily. Second to that, I like the concept and the closed up setup of it all. Thirdly if that rumor the hakchi2 guy got a peek at stuff and said it's unlocked too, if this thing is in numbers Nintendo claims I'd probably buy a second and make a Super Super Nintendo and put anything that works on it as it would make a wicked total SNES box.

Went to Walmart looking for a filter
Asked the clerk in electrical for it and he said we don’t have it
Then I said let’s cut the chase.
Are you guys getting the snes mini
He said we already have them and we have plenty to go around
I asked how many he said I can’t say I said 50 he said he can’t say
I said 100 and he smiles and he he can’t say and throws his finger up like more in stock
He told me if I show up at 6am you will get one no problem
I hope he wasn’t lying. That pumped me up so much

Yeah, that's me, too. I've got all of them except Star Fox 2. I'm not even a fan of the series, but after fiddling with the NES Classic for a bit, I'd love one of these, too. If I see it, I'll probably buy it. If nothing else, it'll give me something to take to some friends' houses.Tanooki wrote:I actually own all of them, except the one no one can own yet -- Star Fox 2. Sarge - I am a fan of it, when it didn't stray off into stupidville. The one exception as I went into it not wanting a shooter, Starfox Adventures. That one I actually really enjoyed a whole lot and I don't care for stuff like that one was much. I finished it unlike Twilight Princess if that amounts to much.
Starfox 2 was basically in various ways lifted for SF64 so it's a good one to see where their bright ideas for all range mode, walker mode, and a few other things were born and even as a dry run work well. As for the rest it's the features and the HDMI+portability of it too. Let's not kid, quite a few games on there couldn't hurt from using hot saves from the brutal few like Contra to those who jsut have stupid annoying passwords (CV4+MMX) which are fun to bypass.
mas: I wouldn't be surprised. I was at Meijer today, I think they may have had them but the guy couldn't say. Older dude, hates people standing in line. He says he'll be there Thursday into the night and if he has any say he'll be giving out numbers as lines are crap, but if some DM douche or one particular manager who is a protocol nazi as he put it shows up there will be a lame line. I figure since they're open at midnight, why not. If that fails, head home for awhile then roll out at TRU and/or BB and be there around 4am and see what it looks like. I get by on little sleep anyway so I don't care. Scalper fodder I will not be whether this 100+ thing you got is true or not.

Since we're talking about Star Fox... some quick opinions on the Star Fox series:
Star Fox - I beat this when it debuted, all the 3D polygon stuff blew me away. I still think it's fun today. I love the OST. 9/10
Star Fox 2 - I beat the AGTP version of this. A lot of cool new ideas, but lacked the charm and polish of the original. Certainly it wasn't good enough to make me want to buy a SNES Classic solely for its inclusion. 6/10
Star Fox 64 - I beat this when it debuted, I really enjoyed the game, but not as much as the original. 8/10
Star Fox Adventures - Never played this, no opinions yet.
Star Fox: Assault - Beat this one years after it came out. The flying parts were decent. The on foot parts sucked. 7/10
Star Fox Command - Beat this one. Very fun strategy game with real time battles. It's not perfect, but certainly underrated. 8/10
Star Fox 64 3D - Never played this, no opinions yet.
Star Fox Zero - Never played this, no opinions yet.
Star Fox Guard - Never played this, no opinions yet.

PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: SNES Classic coming September 29th
I've touched them all but the WiiU stuff as I sold it around just after MK8 arriving.
#1 - Still perhaps the simplicity of it but it's a favorite.
#2 - Unofficially I think it's really fantastic and controls/plays well but ...beta? (on my repro cart)
#3 - N64 game is up there as an equal to the original, loved the setup and expanded concepts of the original, no complaints like it as much as the original.
#4 - The adventure - I can't rate it against the usual but I loved it more than Twilight Princess by bounds, finished it, not the bloated zelda relic
#5 - SFA - Hit and miss a good B I guess, maybe B- -- the game is short, the flight sequences are excellent, but the tanks are a bit rocky unlike N64, and on foot fairly sucks and controls like a lame tank
#6 - The DS one, a straight up F, as in F that game. Limited turns, crap fog of war with moving targets, touch only control that cramps, I never finished it fed up losing time and again due to moving targets and running out of turns due to the fog of war, not failing by sucking at shooting things. Kill this one with fire.
#7 - SF643D is just the N64 game 3D with little added, didn't need anything added so it's just as fantastic as the original but with optional 3D depth so a re-run win
#8-9 -- WiiU, never touched, only read negative stuff about forced touch controls and I hope they re-do it for Switch and remove the rocky bits.

Star Fox - Blew my face off when it released. Great stuff, too many people rag on it nowadays. Not here though I don't think. OST is God tier. I always liked Route 2 because of Venom's music, they don't make them like this anymore:
Star Fox 2 - Could only stomach a few minutes when I tried out some rom ages ago. The free roam stuff was super boring. I liked Vortex, but not anymore. I'm curious to see what this supposed official complete version will be like.
Star Fox 64 - Amazing, beat all the routes, had a ton of secrets and cool stuff. I love how serious this felt compared to the Nintendo norm, COCKY LITTLE FREAK. Andross was so evil, but I like the weird mask face more from the original. I like how there was an Independence Day UFO thing haha. The free roam stages in this were great. Star Wolf was a great addition.
Star Fox Adventure - Zelda for babies. Beat it once when it was new. It's fine.
Aren't Zero and Guard the same thing? No idea. Overall it seems like one of the most mishandled Nintendo franchises out there. But I guess there's only so much you can do with rail shooters thesedays. I've always liked the characters and the world. Taking it more in the Adventure direction with the rail shooter elements and stages, along with some other stuff maybe would have been great. I mean, look at how amazing Ratchet & Clank is. Star Fox could have been that for Nintendo.

Guard is a tower defense style game where you set up defenses and use cameras to fend off invaders in a maze.

Ugh tower defense I don't think had I ever owned the game I would have tried that out if I got a copy that came with it.
And I do agree Star Fox is one of the most sadly mishandled to the point of alienating people. If anything could match or surpass it given its interested base would be F-Zero. Too many what were they thinking moments there on stuff we just didn't get or they did something just wonky with it.

I've got a guy on the inside of a retail chain. I'll get numbers from there in the morning. If they are big.... people will not worry about getting one.
