I don't hate those series. They're not my cup of tea, but I understand the appeal. The point is if you are fully aware that the reactivation "fee" is full msrp and they system does indeed have an "always on" requirement (they try to downplay it and call it something else but they're not fooling anyone) and you still want to buy one, that's your business but you'll have to accept the fact that you'll look stupid for wasting your money whether you actually are or not. That's honestly how I feel (and I'm not the only one) and I don't know how I can possibly sugarcoat that to avoid offending anyone. Sorry.Stark wrote: Saying that there were negatives in the presentation and calling people morons for buying one are not the same thing. The fact is, this was a presentation of the hardware and what makes it a "good buy" for the average person and had little to do with gaming. Nevertheless, the games they did show will appeal to a wide audience and people liking these games does not necessarily make them a dudebro and definitely doesn't make them a moron.
How are we to know that you don't hate Halo/CoD/Gears because that's the popular thing to do?

So all those PC gamers who have been buying games that can't be resold for the last decade or so are all giant suckers/morons? I can't imagine how they've managed to have any fun, the big dummies!
No used games on the new Xbox is fine by me, it just means I'll buy games more selectively (and probably less frequently). I probably will buy far fewer physical copies, too, which isn't going to inhibit my enjoyment of the console at all.
And if the games become unplayable in a decade or more when XboxTOO comes out? Oh well, they're just games.

And you bring up the reason I have refused to PC game for the last decade and counting. Listen when I lend a friend a movie, they don't have to pay an activation fee to watch a movie I already paid for. It's rediculous. I can't knowingly support these kind of practices. It doesn't really bother me. Modern games tend to not interest me at all and I have a MASSIVE backlog so I don't really care. Count me out for this one.
Re: New Xbox releases in Nov. Will be called "Xbox"
What are you talking about? Until recently, people could always resell their PC games if they wanted because there wasn't anything preventing unlimited installs and even today, not every game has install limits (and those that do generally have cracks available to get rid of that limitation). And as far as older PC games, there are ways of playing them on modern hardware, so that part of the argument also fails. Did I miss anything?dsheinem wrote:So all those PC gamers who have been buying games that can't be resold for the last decade or so are all giant suckers/morons? Re: New Xbox releases in Nov. Will be called "Xbox"
The vast majority of PC games sold in the past decade have A) been sold via a digital distribution platform like Steam which has a one time install code or B) sold via a digital distribution platform like GOG which offers DRM-free games but nonetheless can't be resold or C) sold via "hard copy" in a box and shipped with a key for Steam/Origin/or some other DRM measure. Yes, you are right that some of the disc based PC games have a key that can be reused and thus can be sold, but this has increasingly become the exception and has long been the exception for most big-budget PC games (especially those geared directly towards the PC crowd).Retrodude wrote:Even today, not every game has install limits (and those that do generally have cracks available to get rid of that limitation).
EDIT: here's an article from 3 years ago (a lifetime in PC gaming, really) that shows that digital had already overtaken retail, meaning that most PC gamers were buying games they couldn't resell: http://www.forbes.com/sites/oliverchian ... ys-survey/

Going to add my two cents to this and say that I'm not impressed either.
I want a dedicated gaming machine, and I would have preferred it if they would just concentrate on that. I admit that I use my 360 to watch Netflix on the TV, its handy but its not the reason I bought the device, and it won't be a reason to buy a One. I already have a device that plays Netflix on the TV. If I'm going to cough up that much cash then I need a reason that only that device can fulfill.
I miss the days when you bought a new console game, got home, put it in the machine and it just played. Now I have to wait for it to install, then update itself etc etc. Thats the differentiation between PC's and Consoles for me, PC games take a while to get running with installations and fiddling with graphic settings and consoles just play the game.
Thing is ugly as hell.

I believe consumers expect consoles to be more user friendly than PCs - to be "pop it in and play" systems, so to speak.TheSonicRetard wrote:What's the distinction?elmagicochrisg wrote:As strange as you may find this, but yes.MrPopo wrote:Because one is ok and the other isn't?
I don't want a console that behaves like a PC. I already have a PC.

Well, that reveal yesterday was underwhelming. Unless they announce some killer exclusives at E3, I'll be going with PS4/PC/Wii U next gen. I've never seen a console so restrictive, and so not focused on games.
On the positive side, the hardware and controller are both attractive looking.
