Played R-Type Delta and G-Darius PS1 via PS3 last night. RTD is brutally hard - for me anyways. G-Darius is definately one of those games where you get better each time you play it. I'm really enjoying it.

Playing Hyper Duel on Saturn. It's short, but very sweet.

Amazing stuff, one of Technosoft's last classic releases I believe. I wish it were a bit more challenging, but it's beautiful and fun to play.

I hadn't been playing any shmups lately (aside from some occasional rounds of Crimzon Clover), but after I picked up a bunch from TooManyGames yesterday I gave three a spin this morning and have a few more to try out before settling in to one or two (or three).

So, today I played Side Arms (PCE), Cyber Core (PCE), and Space Invaders Plus (PCE) and quite enjoyed all three - they are very solid games , based on the half hour or so spent with each.

Later tonight and tomorrow I'll give the other new PCE games a spin (Dragon Spirit, Dragon Saber (a sequel I didn't even know existed!), Barunba, and Hellfire S. I also have Raiden DX, Gun Frontier, and the less-shmupy Internal Section to get to, as well as some NES shmups!

So, seasoned shumppers - which ones do you think are the best in that lot and why? Which one should I throw in immediately?

I'm just barely digging into PCE stuff lately, but I can definitely say Dragon Spirits is awesome. Loved the NES/arcade versions and the PCE port seems pretty good too from the bit I played.

And I can safely say I've never heard of Dragon Saber too until just now, haha wow.

i just picked up gadget twins today for sega. last night i was browsing sega-16's shmup extravaganza feature and just happened to see a boxed copy today while i was out. if it wasn't for that feature i would have NEVER bought it; the title doesn't sound like a shmup and even the box art doesn't look like a shmup.

i only have played a little bit of it, but i am enjoying it. i don't know if this is an accepted sub genre or if sega-16 made it up, but they call it a "cute-em up."

speaking of sega-16, the forums were hacked again today.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Yes, other examples being Parodius, TwinBee, Star Parodier, Harmful Park, Flying Hero, Mr Heli, Fantasy Zone, Cotton, and to a lesser extent, perhaps Gun Nac, Zonk, Rabio Lepus, and L-Dis
