I started doing Data Entry about 15 years ago. And I only had about a 4 month lull time between two jobs. I've moved up from just Data Entry, but I still work in the same field.PretentiousHipster wrote:Back in accounting I've been told my data entry skills are out of this world. I didn't wanna do it before because with short-term contracts it would be hard to keep a consistent income, but with disability it might still be ok. I'll look into it.marurun wrote:I wonder if there's any work you can do from home. A lot of it is pretty menial, like medical transcription, but if you keep honing your video and audio editing skills maybe some Podcast or video series would pull you on as an editor.PretentiousHipster wrote:Which does remind me. I think I have to leave my job, at least the server part. My mental health is getting worse from the previous post and work is making in impossible to manage. Shame because it looks like I can only do "easy" jobs, or at least more artistic since I can do my youtube hobby for hours a day.
It's not exciting work and can be a little stressful at times, whenever your deadlines/crunch time appear. But, you hardly deal with many people and since the Pandemic, I work from home 4 days out of the week. It's kind of a day in/day out grind, but if you don't mind zoning out to do some repetitive task while listening to your music/podcast, its not bad work.
I kind of graduate college with no skills and no idea what I wanted to do with my life. So, I kind of fell into this line of work and considering what I could be doing with my life, I don't mind it whatsoever.

That sounds good. I will have to stick with part-time for at least the next few years, so temporary contracts with lulls in between might be the best, but I assume that's the norm with agencies anyways. I should be ok with stuff like that now because my province implemented employee's rights that full-time workers have for agencies, and the disability employment support program should help. I can do brain dead work anyways, as long as it's not for more than a few weeks. I remember working as an accountant before there was a period where I had to remove staples, scan tax returns, confirm they are scanned, and then file them away for maybe 600 folders worth. It took like 2-3 months and after a while it was a hellish experience.

Feel better, Megas! Hope you have a quick recovery.SamuraiMegas wrote:I'm working three jobs right now that are a little bit closer to just being gigs. I'm still working 40ish hrs and going to school - I have to say I much prefer working like this. Maybe try to do the same with the accounting stuff.
Unrelated but had to go get an IV today- super dehydrated from the flu. Haven't been able to keep anything down for 24hrs.

Pulled a 14-hour day for a commercial shoot yesterday. Picked up the production truck at 6:00am, turned it in at 7:30pm. Finally got home around 8:30pm. A long but productive day.

Sorry to hear about your dehydration Samurai. I haven't been on in a while (other things going on) but just this past Tuesday, I got hit with food poisoning. First case I've ever had (mid-30s). I lost a shit (heh) ton of liquids in two days. Thursday, I went to an urgent care clinic (a first for me too), and got put on the right path with antibiotics. Most likely sushi I ate for lunch Tuesday. Been drinking bottles of Gatorade, doing the BRAT diet, and eating Pedialyte ice pops because I'm a child
I was like a day away form the ER with severe dehydration. Glad I found the strength to go to the UC when I did. But I'm going in the right direction.
Long story, short: I know the feeling of dehydration. It truly sucks!

I own too many hoodies jackets hoodies and DS games and I’m not ashamed!

So for the next 5 mornings I'll be working 7-noon at a nearby bakery, and then Thursday and Friday I'll work a few hours in the evening at their sister store (an ice cream place). The bakery is called Muffins and Scones, while the ice cream place is called Cups and Cones, the latter literally just a short walk from the former.
It's not going to be easy juggling three jobs, and it's not going to be fun, but if I'm going to have any chance of paying off the six months of back rent that I owe AND keep up on the weekly rent and my various expenses AND hopefully sock away enough money to either move to NYC or keep my expenses paid in the off-season (my new job is seasonal, just like Duck Donuts), I'm going to have to do it.
I'm nervous but excited.
