I’m sure the other two NYCers can back me up here: during the 90s and 00s, the hottest items that were robbed off a person were North Face jackets, Timberland boots, and Jordan’s. I mean those were easily top three.

Then it transitioned to earlier iPhones and those large Beats headphones. They would wait by the subway doors and right before closing at a stop, they’d swipe your headphone from your head and you’d have no way of giving chase.

Nowadays, I don’t even know what’s popular, outside of a wallet. I can’t think of something so popular that people would be targeted for theft.

Yeah, North Face jackets and Jordans were definitely hot items throughout the 90s and early 2000s. I would also include Polo Ralph Lauren clothing during that era. Those brands were highly coveted at that time, and people were getting their stuff taken. There was a large culture of boosting from department stores and taking garments from people, if they were perceived as weak or just alone. There were a few areas labeled as no go's if you wanted to keep your belongings.

As Gucci mentioned, I think the popular items now are mostly new Apple products and I'd throw in Supreme, due to the value. There were a few years in the early 2010s where the Marmot Biggie jackets were coveted, which lead to a shooting at a holiday ice skating rink in Bryant Park in midtown. Shortly after that, I believe Marmot stopped producing the jacket.

Here's a link to the Marmot story: https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-usa- ... 2R20131111

I'm glad that the stick up culture is not as prevalent, because in the 90s you had to be ready to defend yourself if you wanted to dress in fashionable items.

Appreciate the info, Gucci! I was aware of the Biggie collab with The Apartment but I thought it was a one off thing. Didn't realize it was widely available again!

:x Months ago I preordered the physical version of the then-forthcoming Binding of Isaac: Repentance for the Switch and just recently found out that despite the fact that the digital version hits tomorrow, I wouldn't get my physical copy until some unknown date in 2022!

:D Thankfully all I had to do was send an email to Hypergun's customer support and my order is cancelled and my money refunded.

:( The refund's gonna take just under a week.

Remember how I said I decided not to start a GoFundMe to raise money to buy presents for my niblings?

An incredibly rare intervention by Flake!

We've received a ton of feedback about this and I've removed the offending link. Please do not interact with REPO about it, the mod team will handle it. Have a great day everyone and go play some games!

I am using every fiber of my being to hold back how I really feel about this.

So instead I’m going to have Em express the first of many questions I have:

There are some things which will forever remain a mystery to us mere mortals.

Given the usual gravity of things a lot of people on Go Fund Me use that site for (such as emergency medical bills, rent payments so they don't get evicted, legal fees against abusers), using it so you can buy your family extravagant Christmas presents beyond your means is kinda disgustingly selfish behavior.

Given that you usually ignore our advice here, no matter how polite or frank it is, I realize I'm really just venting into the void here, but seriously man. What the fuck? And now you're posting about it here after we universally told you that this was a bad idea and a shitty thing to do. What're you hoping to accomplish?

I’m going to go against the grain here and say this is just a mediocrely bad use of GoFundMe. I’m of the opinion nobody should have to use GoFundMe for life-saving medical treatment or to not starve. GoFundMe should only be for aspirational stuff that you need an extra push to achieve.

Setting unrealistic gift expectations for nieces and nephews whose interests you don’t express any interest in (like dance team) is a poor move on many levels, but it’s what we’ve come to expect. I hope you get no money at all because this is dumb.

Not to mention that people who have life or death situations don't make enough money anyways unless it somehow goes viral.

I think it's easy to figure out what's going now. This is the resident troll, and I firmly believe that this confirms it.

Remember that new user that signed up? Pretty weird person right. Kind of like all of our attention went to them instead of REPO. REPO didn't like that. He needs to be the troll here. He needs to be on the radar again. And, what better way to do that than to make something like this.

Just don't take his posts seriously anymore. By doing this we're giving him what he wants.
