I haven't had a lot of gaming time recently, but I spent some more time with King's Field IV last night. Currently, I keep getting murdered by some kind of stone guardian while trying to steal a binding crown. (Up to that point, I had died twice. The stone guardian killed me six or seven times last night...) I checked a guide to see if I was missing something, and it's only advice was "run fast". That isn't exactly my character's strong point, and I am wondering if there is a better, smarter way to get past it. (Help me, Exhuminator!)

After giving up trying to steal the binding crown, I decided to search for hidden doors. I ended up finding a few, and I have some pretty coole equipment now, including a flaming sword that I am certain will come in handy later in the game. I also discovered that I am leveld up enough to survive the fall to the bottom of the well (to then get murdered by giant wasps). I will explore the well tonight before heading back to the stone guardian...

I think you're talking about this enemy type:

IIRC I used arrows to kill them, shooting them in the head from as far away as I could. Trying to take them on mano a mano is a good way to get yourself pulverized.

Well bud I told you the enemies would start to get trickier as you go in. Bad AI doesn't matter much when a monster can kill you in one hit.

Yes, yes, you're doing it right. Always search for hidden doors at all times. The King's Field games are the most hidden door infested games I've ever played. I have found hidden rooms within hidden rooms within hidden rooms. And the best gear? Always in hidden rooms.

I am so proud of you for playing King's Field IV.

I figured arrows were the way to go since I found a dead one with four arrows in its face.

The problem is, I don't have a bow yet, and to proceed further in the game, I have to bind one of these things with a binding crown...And, to get the binding crown I need, I have to release one of the guardians and run out of the room really, really quickly...And, my character just isn't that fast.

My equipment weigh is below that which is required for me to run...but I am wondering if I will run faster if I remove everything...The guardian is going to one-shot me regardless of whether I am wearing armor...

Indeed, the King's Field games give you subtle hints like that.

If you find yourself stuck in KFIV, it's best just to wander off somewhere else and explore and look for new items. Sometimes key items are only dropped by killing enemies, so definitely kill every enemy you can. Also, sometimes NPC shopkeepers have unique items that only they sell. So right now I'd make it a priority to find a bow. I'm sure you were gonna do that anyway, but hey.

Please stick with it though, 'cause you've got some amazing stuff ahead of you.

Don't worry! If I put more than a few hours into a game, I am going to see it through to the end come hell or high water. (It also helps that I actually like this game quite a bit.)

Well, I've waited 17 years, 9 months, and 13 days. Guess that's long enough.
