The irony is the people where he lives now will eat his disgusting cakes, they just don't share his awful taste in media. He's pining to move somewhere he thinks he can convince people his poor taste is just "artsy", but they will never eat his disgusting cakes.

I’m sorry I’m a little new to the conversation. What’s the reason for the move to NYC?

I wouldn’t move to anywhere unless I have a job lined up that would pay enough to at least be as close as possible to the current standard of living.

I mean you need to be making at least $100k a year to live in NYC or else you’re moving right into poverty. That number is bare minimum. Shitty little hole in a wall apartments go for $2500+ a month and can skyrocket to $4500 easily. Lottery for affordable housing will prefer people who are already here over an outsider and those lotteries have a shit ton of applicants.

That’s just housing. Food, utilities, transportation, recreation. That shit adds up.

This is a LONG story that's been litigated to death. REPO is stuck in BFE where nobody appreciates his "eclectic" tastes, he has no friends, and he's working too many hours at minimum wage dead-end jobs. Moving to New York will allow him to make friends, meet his dream partner, and find his dream job/life in content creation in movies and/or on Broadway, plying the skills he has none of because he has invested no actual time developing them. Moving to NYC is the magic Staples Easy Button for his very tough life.

Either that or this is a really long troll that could also be a desperate cry for attention and recognition.

I wouldn't go as far as to call his taste awful. Although I don't appreciate how he seems to think a Criterion release as a sort of badge of honour. There's so much more to their releases than just the stuff that gets released, like stuff that they can't release due to distribution or budgeting issues. My biggest beef though is that I've never seen him saying WHY he likes or dislikes the stuff. A lot of directors, including ones he loves like Godard, started out as critics. Plus, there's the fact that all I've seen him write is one chapter of a King of the Hill fanfic. He's gonna have to practice a hell of a lot more than that.

Like I've said before, I even listen to stuff like reductionism, onkyo, and power electronics. I can't find people who share my taste in the city, but I find people who appreciate it, and even people with polar opposite tastes are still fun to hang out with. I believe that is cause my taste is sincere. I admit, I was a snob when I first started out exploring music and films in-depth, but I believe that was a sort of venture of me trying to "improve myself" and slowly becoming an expert in another avenue. Keep in mind, I live in an INCREDIBLY boring city. I won't say where, but there were memes and stuff that made it internationally about how this city is, and I can STILL find tons of people to hang with.

For something more I guess you can say wholesome. I found a way to at least partially get rid of that perpetual feeling of exhaustion: exercise

I kept it light and just did a walk before it got too hot and one level of Ring Fit Adventure.

I still am drinking a lot of caffeine, but I didn't take a nap at my usual time. It's amazing how much like 10 minutes of exercise did!

The thing that motivated me the most actually was that I applied to a mid to high fashion store chain here in Canada. I'm not an expert but know enough about fits and colour theory that it should work (Thank you Tim Dessaint!). I have been told by some people that I should try web modeling. It's not really the looks as I don't find myself attractive, but there's the fact that I have a face shape that works with almost every hairstyle, and shape of glasses. I have also noticed that I can pull off quite a few clothing styles: Formal (they say I look best with this especially with my tattoos as a contrast), street wear, goth, and even southern country style.

The problem is that I'm 220 now and 5 foot 11 so I got a lot to get rid of. The other problem is that my Zelda tattoo might be an issue. If it's on their website, considering how litigious Nintendo is, they might put a cease and desist on the photos.

I’m trying to wrap my head around this one at the risk that I’m getting trolled to kingdom come.

So he wants to move to NYC in order to find friends who like the same things he likes and stuff and NOT because we have a high paying job lined up that can support oneself and not be a drain on an already strained system?

Precisely. He wants to write for something like SNL or 30 Rock, and has ambitions of showing up on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, or be on a talk show. This is from someone who just makes Simpsons memes (that no one here understands lol), and one chapter of a fanfic.

He does humble work right now. Nothing wrong with that of course, I'm a part-time dishwasher myself, but he HAS to write a lot more than that if he even wants a shot.

They do sell designer stuff but I actually love their in-house products. Great balance of quality and price.

Alright I’m throwing in the towel. I don’t understand.

All I can say, with all sincerity, is this: please don’t come. Not to be a dick but the city’s resources are stained as I mentioned before. Homelessness and violence is on the rise. And while we can debate if the former leads to the latter all day, the reality is that if you come here without either a shit ton of money or a high paying job lined up, you’ll be almost guaranteed to fall into the former quite quickly.

Again I’m not being a dick, just being realistic.

Go to a trade school. Learn to become an electrician or plumber or whatever, then come to the city. There will always be a need for those two tradesman or similar job. Then you can take the satiation test and if selected, make more money a year than my office job. During bad winters, sanitation guys can walk away with $140k a year with OT.

Do your movie stuff as a side hustle.

I remember in High School there was a certain snobbery to career pathways. The SMART kids go to university. College, and especially apprenticeships, are for the dumbasses. It's funny because the last 2 are the ones that will give you a much higher chance at a job lol. My university degree was useless, but my 2 year college degree got me a job before graduating.
