Re: Yet another 3DS model announced - the NEW 3DS
For anyone that is just now using the 3DS 3D display, I highly recommend replaying Super Mario 3D Land. IMO, that game put the effect to better use than any other. (I was pleased with the effect on my "regular" 3DS; so, I imagine it is much better on the New 3DS.)

Re: Yet another 3DS model announced - the NEW 3DS
Not only did I not have an issue with the 3D on the old systems, I've actually had MORE issues with the 3D on my NEW 3DS. Admittedly, this is due to the environment it was being played in (in the dark, against a striped background) but I noticed the 3d flicker a bit every so often. I never had issues with keeping the sweet spot before.
Re: Yet another 3DS model announced - the NEW 3DS
The new 3D display is fantastic, I may actually start playing games in 3D now! I also think that the speakers seem louder. That was one of my big complaints on my XL. My only complaint is the glossy finish. I preferred the matte finish on my blue 3DSXL.... oh well.
I didn't bother with trading mine in. I sold it on Craigslist for $120. Sold within a few hours.

Speakers are definitely better.

With my 3DS XL, this only happens if I don't hold it in the "sweet spot". As long as I have my 3DS XL in that sweet spot, the 3D looks perfect, even at full effect. I don't understand what the New 3DS is supposed to do to make this look any better.
Okay I understand it tracks your head and adjusts the 3D viewing angle based on that, so if you move the device, or your head, the sweet spot stays with you. However, the actual 3D effect is still achieved the same way as it was on the old 3DS devices. I'm talking about the stereoscopic effect itself. As I understand it then, the New 3DS only improves 3D for those who were unable to manually find and maintain the sweet spot on their own to begin with. If I am wrong about that, and the stereoscopic 3D effect itself has fundamentally changed somehow, I would like to know the technical details of that.
Otherwise this new head tracking thing doesn't mean much to me. Because when I play my 3DS XL, I do so with the device stationary and my head stationary. I manually adjust my eyes to the sweet spot beforehand. So tracking my non-moving head wouldn't do much to enhance this effect right?
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Eh, I don't think anyone was saying the 3D is actually better... For me, it's just awesome how the 3D effect snaps into place and stays like that no matter how much I fidget and move my head. I enjoyed the 3D on the older models as well, but having to find the sweet spot and stay in that position? C'mon, man... No longer ever having to go back to that is awesome.

Yeah, I've said before, that's the one of two features of the New 3DS that would make me buy one. There's a few games where the 3D effect is pretty neat, but I always end up playing with it off just because I can't hold the 3DS still enough for the image not to bounce around.

That's the thing, my sweet spot is having the 3D slider at half and at a very specific spot away from my head and ABSOLUTELY UNMOVING. If my hands shake or if I push a button, double vision. It is truly unplayable for me. Everyone sees the 3D differently and has different sweet spots, but mine is really uncomfortable and inconvenient. With the New 3DS it is not inconvenient at all. I can have the system at any angle and have the 3D pumped all the way up without having that issue.
Sure for some people who could see the 3D naturally and never have any problems getting their sweet spot, this new feature may not be that cool, but from my experiences, people who easily see the 3D on the regular 3DS are a minority.

Re: Yet another 3DS model announced - the NEW 3DS
The 3D is definitely more stable for me. If I barely moved an older unit, the effect went to a double image. Now it allows for some 'give' when you're playing. However, I'm seeing some black vertical shadows when I tilt. Anyone else seeing this? It's very pronounced on the default home screen.
