Japan labels were often in English. Just google-search the part number on the label. That'll tell you if it's EUR/JPN.
been playing Pac-Man NGPC a lot this weekend. Those restrictors help so so much. I'm curious if anyone who's really knowledgeable about Pac-Man played this port. It feels extra hard to me. I get the impression that the ghosts do not follow pre-set paths like the arcade game - making it more akin to Ms. Pac-Man. But I'd love if someone who knows the game inside and out could confirm?

now that I'm looking, it might be all 3 regions use the same number. Hmm.
I'm looking at eBay and EUR carts and JPN carts of PBM all look identical. I just compared CIB copies of both versions, and the carts are the same.

Nope, part number tells you what you need to know. I just pulled up random games on RFGeneration and looked at their part numbers... looks like for any given game, the EU part number is "NEOPXXXX", the JP part number is "NEOPXXXX0" and the US part number is "NEOPXXXX1" so that's easy enough. I have in front of me 4 carts -- 2 with ESRB logo that definitely are 5 digits long ending in a 1, and 2 with the rainbow "Supported by NGP Color" logo that are definitely 4 digits long. So looks like it holds true.

I never would have thought these carts were from different regions had you guys pointed them out. Is there any difference between the Roms apart from translation? The three PAL/JP games I own don't appear to play any differently.

tough to be certain. A lot of NGPC games actually have both English and Japanese on the cart and the cart detects which language your system is set to. But there's no hard rules I know of. There *could* be differences to the ROMs and not every cart has both languages.
Anyway, I just won a CIB copy of Metal Slug 1st Mission for $16 shipped. Woo.
