Personally - I like my winters snowy.. This season has been the ultimate letdown! Where's the snow, dammit!!o.pwuaioc wrote:I'm not complaining about the 45 degree January, no sir not at all.s1mplehumar wrote:Lucky! It's been a mild winter here in PA as well. We had about 1.5" right before Halloween, and a few dustings here and there. I long for the days of the winter of '93. Snow drifts nearing the porch roof. I love a good chill!BoringSupreez wrote:: Snowed today, the first snow this winter that's actually going to stick for more than 24 hours. Been a kinda pathetic winter this time.

Big Smile
I was driving to the Swap meet early this morning. Early Sunday mornings a local radio station plays syndicated Casey Kasem Top 40 shows. One of the songs that moved up the charts a couple of notches was Sister Mary Elephant from the 70s. A Cheech and Chong comedy about a rowdy classroom and a substitute teacher. Oh man, The vibration on the speakers at seven am this morning when teach yells SHUTUP followed by a polite Thankyou. All the subtile background comments as "Far Out" and "I still have to go to the can."

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
We've been on vacation in Vegas. It was 4 day trip, but I was getting more sick with each day.
On the last day, shortly before we were going to leave, I hit the jackpot and was carted off for an extended 3 day stay at the lavish Sunrise Hospital, where I was told I had a blood sugar of 549 and treated for ketoacidosis. For those curious: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diabetic_ketoacidosis
Turns out I'm diabetic and now dependent on insulin.
I guess all of that time I spent last year changing my diet and losing 40 pounds would have been equally well spent jacking off.
But that's not all so bad really. Diabetes is manageable. And for the first time I found myself happy to have health insurance, as they covered 80% of my hospital bill, which wasn't small.
Today though I filled my prescription for the first time, and paid $210 (after insurance) for a 10 day supply of my insulin. That means I'm now looking at about 600 bucks a month for medicine I can't live without. Hey kids, can you guess who's completely fucked? That's right, I am! I'm completely fucked! Yay!
We had a lot of plans for this year, and I was going to work extra to make them happen. Now I'll have to work extra just to meet the bare minimum again.
Really shitty start to the new year.

Holy shit. This is the kinda thing that really makes me appreciate the NHS.CFFJR wrote:

Smile: Picked up my batch of complimentary copies of my book today, and it was damn cool to be able to hold one in my hand after all the work it took!
Frown: Our new dining room bookshelf arrived today but was cracked badly in shipping, so we have to wait another week for a replacement.

Wow, that sucks man. I guess on the bright side it is good you caught it, though, as it can wreak long-term havoc if it goes untreated....
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
I'm sorry about this. Maybe there other Pharmacies that might offer a better rate? Medicine is something you don't want to go cheap on and certainly not Insulin. Maybe your doctor could have alternate solutions such as a different supplier of the insulin? A positive note that I hope happens to you, My 87 year old mom is also Diabetic and she was on Insulin at one time, but now take daily pills instead.CFFJR wrote:Turns out I'm diabetic and now dependent on insulin.

I'm still a little worried if I've developed any complications. I think I had a sugar crash this past week. I've only had a few, not more than I can count on my fingers, but I'll never forget the first one I had years ago at my first job and since then I've been able to pinpoint them directly when they randomly and rarely happen. I seem to have major spikes of energy levels, down or up, and I can't skip a meal or go long without food before I start feeling pretty terrible, really irritable, etc...
Definitely my big plan for this year, is to pinpoint what's going on with my health now that I got this new job and can actually get some checkups done.
I'm sorry to hear about all that CFFJR, but it's a really good thing you discovered this sooner than later.

Word of advice: if you're trying to sell something online, you have a better chance of doing so if you respond to your emails. Just sayin.

If I go without one of my 4 meals a day I tend to pass out, but I've never figured out why. Eating 4 meals a day has kept it at bay though.Xeogred wrote:I'm still a little worried if I've developed any complications. I think I had a sugar crash this past week. Older. Not wiser.
