The mystery wheel gave me Final Fantasy X-2. I'm 2/3 through Chapter 1 and following a 100% guide. I remember first picking up this game way back in the day and getting utterly trashed because of the design of it; the game expects you to go visit all the destinations before doing the chapter missions and gain some experience. But there's not a lot that actively encourages you to do so. I'd recommend following a 100% guide even if you don't stress over getting the 100% (such as not reloading if you fail something) just so that you experience the content in the game.
I think the big thing that is going to come to annoy me is the fact that unlike most of the job systems in RPGs this one doesn't have ability sharing. I still haven't figured out how I want to specialize each of the girls.
What RPG are you playing right now?

Not only that, if you visit certain locations out of order, you can screw yourself out of 100% too. Such as visiting one side of a long road before the other. I quit playing when I realized that I had cut myself out of .01% of the game by not going to the far end of a road first.MrPopo wrote:The mystery wheel gave me Final Fantasy X-2. I'm about 8.5 hours into FF3 (VI) and I can now say that this may be my favorite RPG thus far. There's something so fluid about the way the story is told. I love the absurdity of certain parts (phantom train) and the way the stories all branch off near the beginning so I get a real chance to invest some time with the various characters. At no time have I felt like I'm simply going through the motions, which seems very refreshing for an RPG.

I love where it splits into three stories that all converge later. Such a boss game.

Oh boy. I couldn't resist. Fired up PSO again.
Well, it's version 2 this time. I imported my character from version 1. Since I was able to finish that game solo I could probably make a beeline straight for the final boss and take him out. But I want to redo every dungeon and maybe check out a few quests first. Just rolled through the forests. The dragon boss is a piece of cake at level 31.

I'm on abyss 6 out of 8 right now in From The Abyss on the venerable DS. I find this simple dungeon crawler to be pretty dang fun believe it or not. It only does one thing, but it does that one thing well. Run through the dungeon, kill kill kill, collect loot. I think this one's a bit underrated, but then again it doesn't pander to normal JRPG tropes most folks relish, so that's understandable.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
So, I got my copy of Majora's Mask in. Obviously, that's what I spent all my weekend playing, right? Nope!
Instead, Friday night, I finally got around to upgrading the hard drive in my 360, threw in a 320GB drive. Since I didn't have a proper transfer cable (one of the off-brand ones), I had to use Party Buffalo to back up, then restore to the new drive. Threw an exception towards the end, but I was able to go right back in and transfer the rest, did a verify on the last folders copied, and all seems well so far.
What does that have to do with RPGs? Well, when you do the transfer, the installed 360 games won't work anymore. Doh. Well, one of those games installed was The Last Remnant. I'd hit a brick wall boss, and had put it down for the umpteenth time. Reinstalled, started playing, tracked down a few sidequests, and then went back and absolutely smoked the battle. Now I'm doing a bit of grinding for stats, while these enemies in the First Path still give them.
(I did actually play some MM, too, though.)

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
My six-year-old daughter and I are playing Child of Light. The game is absolutely gorgeous, and we love it. Moreover, she can actually play it with me, and it will most certainly be the first game that we beat together. (I am controlling the main character, Aurora, and she controls the firefly, Igniculus.)
The game has an interesting active-time-battle system that is very dependent on timing, and despite my daughter's very limited video game experience, she is actually very helpful. When you are in a battle, icons representing your characters and their enemies scroll from left to right across a "wait" and "cast" field. (How fast your characters' icons scroll is dependent on their speed statistic.) When you reach the end of the "wait" field, you select an action, and when you reach the end of the "cast" field, your character takes the action. If a character is hit while her icon is in the "cast" field, however, her action is "interrupted" and her icon goes back to the beginning of the "wait" field. You can also "interrupt" enemy actions; so, timing your attacks (and knowing when to defend) is the key to making it through battles unscathed. The firefly, in addition to curing your characters, can also slow down the rate at which enemies proceed through the "wait" and "cast" fields; so, he is critical to interrupting your enemies attacks (and slowing down your enemies so that they do not interrupt yours).
When my daughter and I are playing the game, I execute the actions while she flits around the screen slowing down enemies, healing characters, and grabbing the occassional recovery items. We now work together very effectively, and she is having a blast. The firefly can also disarm traps and reach items inaccessible by the main character; so, she also has a lot of fun exploring the game's world. (While I typically call the shots in battle, she tells me where we should go, what we should do, and how we should upgrade our characters.) Finally, she loves the game's simple - but somber - story, and she is insistent on playing it every day.
I am having a fantastic time playing the game with her, and while I would recommend this game for solo play based on its gorgeous art direction and excellent battle system, I cannot recommend the co-op experience highly enough.

That's wonderful, Prfsnl. I hope you guys play many more games together.
