Re: The 2013 NFL Season Thread
What is more insane is that they are honestly considering removing the Extra Point kick, because it is just an extra snap that could lead to player injury and strain.

I'd love to write a white paper on that as well.BogusMeatFactory wrote:What is more insane is that they are honestly considering removing the Extra Point kick, because it is just an extra snap that could lead to player injury and strain.
My wife is always pulling me back a bit as apparently I don't "understand tradition" but I'm always an advocate of change, when the change is progressive. Changing the scoring system would be as dumb as when bettman ruined OT in hockey games.
Sure. A T is valid in a NCAA b-ball game when a player goes to a ref and says "I'll cunt punch your wife into oblivion" but an NFL player saying "nigger" is as frequent as someone at Jiffy Lube asking you if you've replaced your air filter lately.
If they truly want to change the "look" of the game, maybe get rid of the rapists, deadbeats, felons, murderers, assholes, etc.

That is all perpetuated by some of the bad cases you see on news. You don't see all the good stuff the players do because that shit isn't 'newsworthy'Luke wrote:I'd love to write a white paper on that as well.BogusMeatFactory wrote:What is more insane is that they are honestly considering removing the Extra Point kick, because it is just an extra snap that could lead to player injury and strain.

I think the 80/20 rule certainly applies to NFL athletes, 80% being the shitty ones.Jmustang1968 wrote: That is all perpetuated by some of the bad cases you see on news. You don't see all the good stuff the players do because that shit isn't 'newsworthy'
You do have your Wilsons. There is a good chunk of guys who volunteer to volunteer and not because it is required by contract. And my hat is off to those guys. Their work is usually influenced by religion, or a solid family.
But that's the 20%.

You have 0% basis for that stat.Luke wrote:I think the 80/20 rule certainly applies to NFL athletes, 80% being the shitty ones.Jmustang1968 wrote: That is all perpetuated by some of the bad cases you see on news. You don't see all the good stuff the players do because that shit isn't 'newsworthy'

And yes, the fines for slurs and the idea of the removal of the extra point are both stupid as shit.

I would put money on it that it is much higher than 20%Luke wrote:I think the 80/20 rule certainly applies to NFL athletes, 80% being the shitty ones.Jmustang1968 wrote: That is all perpetuated by some of the bad cases you see on news. Dishwasher, you have zero clue.dsheinem wrote: You have 0% basis for that stat.
I'm pretty darned tight with the United Way (among other charitable organizations) and have been since I was what Southerners call a "young'in". I take my philanthropic efforts very seriously and I can say without any reservations that most athletes and celebrities totally phone their shit in.
There are exceptions, but "Hey Kid Cancer unit, so and so QB who promised to be here today can't make it" happens more than an actual show.
I stand firmly by my 80/20 analogy. I'd even say that 50% of the 20% show up for ten minutes for PR and then bugg out of the place.
There are some unbelievable people out there who are dedicated to these little troopers, but if you think 80% of these millionaires who get paid to play with balls give two shits about anything or anyone except their own life...well, than I'd like to buy a condo in your fantasy of a life.

I don't want to be a jerkwad, but you're wayyyy off.
My wallet is open on this, so put your money where your mouth is if you'd like.
Players, even at the NCAA level are OBLIGATED to show up at events, and don't even fulfill those obligations.

I listen to nfl radio religiously, ive been involved in the sport for years. You are letting sensational media attention of the negatives sway your judgment. Based on our previous discussion surrounding football, I definitely confident in this...Luke wrote:Ignorance is bliss.Jmustang1968 wrote: I would put money on it that it is much higher than 20%

Let me look into the calendar of events, but I'm up for that bet. Put up or shut up.
