The Master System version has 3 lives standard, and you can buy more, but no continues, no. Can't remember if you can credit feed the arcade game though.Nemoide wrote:Now that I think about it - can you even continue in Fantasy Zone?
I think I can get to level 5 in the SMS version, which still isn't easy.

Thank God for those save states in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (or as my elementary school students call it - Sonic's Ultimate Genius Collection).
Did you know that a Fantasy Zone level is hidden within Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf?

1. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD (Ps3)
2. Metal Gear (MSX) (via MGS HD collection)
3. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (MSX) (via MGS HD collection)
4. Metal Gear Solid (Ps1)
5. Metal Gear Solid 2 HD (Ps3)
I kinda wasn't really planning on doing this, but I figure with Rising right around the corner and with me having already played a bunch of Metal Gear games in a row, I might as well do a playthrough of the rest of the series.
Beaten MGS1 several times at this point, both the original PSX version and the Gamecube Twin Snakes remake. It was really cool playing it right after Metal Gear 2, as all of the Zanzibar Land stuff actually means something to me this time around. Kinda fascinating how it doesn't really add too much gameplay wise to MG2. There are a few gameplay tweaks and additions, sure, but it's not anywhere near the leap that MG to MG2 was.
MGS2 has a lot of detractors, but for me, it's one of my favorite entries in the series, if not flat out my favorite period. I love all the gameplay improvements they made. The AI is smarter, your moveset is bigger. It's not quite as huge a jump as Metal Gear to Metal Gear 2, but it might be close. I also don't really have any issue with Raiden or the story, and I actually really love all the crazy conspiracy stuff in it. Like with MGS and MG2, playing this immediately after its predecessor is quite cool, as all the parallels and references jump out to you really quickly.
Gonna hopefully finish up MGS3 and 4 by the end of the week.

Re: Games Beaten 2013
Man I suck at keeping this up to date.
Blokus (PSN)
A pretty fun little board game. Worth the dollar I spent. Though I imagine it would be more fun playing with human players. As with every other board or card game the AI basically starts to cheat on the harder difficulties.
N.O.V.A. (PS Mini)
Well that was really uninspired. They could have tried a bit more to make the story unique. For what it is though, which is a game originally designed for iDevices, I can't really complain. Again, was worth the buck I spent.
F.E.A.R. (Steam)
Its great in cocept, and the shooting was very satisfying, but ultimately it was too repetitive. Certain enviroments dragged on far too long. And every time I was told to find a plot important character they ran off and I just had to find them all over again. The game would have benefitted from being a couple hours shorter by cutting out the fluff I think.
Deadlight (Steam)
This game is gorgeous to look at. But it sucks. Platforming is boring, combat is completely stupid, controls are loose resulting in lots of cheap deaths, story and voice acting is laughable, and its buggy as shit. The framerate would drop to the single digits, no matter what settings I had on, for no clear reason. I didn't even get audio during the cutscenes, so I was forced to play with subtitles on in order to even know what was going on. Just avoid this game. Its not worth your time, or even a cent from your wallet.
Sugarcube: Bittersweet Factory (Steam)
This was a charming little platformer. Its mechanics are interesting and as the game progressed they continued to be utilized in interesting ways to hold your attention. While some of the rooms were tough, they never felt cheap. Overall on the easy side though. There are certainly better platformers, but I can't think of anything negative to say about this game. Worth a look if your a platform fiend.
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA)
Have you played a metroidvania? If so, you know what to expect. Its completely by the books. But considering metroidvania (or castleroid is you must be picky) is quite posibly my favourite genre, this is exactly what I wanted when I picked this up. Good fun. Finished with like a 93% completion rate or something of the sort.

Up Next?
Nearing the end of Dead Space 3 so I feel Im going to power through. Then I think I will try out Warp. I've also had this itch to play Raid on Bungling Bay. Don't know if I will though as I have a massive list of other things to play.

Re: Games Beaten 2013
I recall struggling with end boss on Fantasy Zone (NES), only to realize that there was another page to the item shop and I could buy h-bombs that dusted of the boss rush, and finale in a pretty straightforward fashion.alienjesus wrote:The arcade version is pretty damn hard. I've 1CC'd the Master System version and I still struggle with the Arcade one.
Fantasy Zone seems like the kind of game where it's basically just as easy to 1CC as it is to beat it, as you're screwed if you die and lose your power ups anyway.
Yeah, I'm a tool.

1. Batman Genesis
2. Golden Axe Sega CD
3. Streets if Rage Sega CD (I'm keeping the typo)
4. Streets of Rage 2
5. Super Mario Bros. 2 NES
6. TMNT Fall of the Foot Clan Gameboy
7. TMNT 2 The Arcade Game NES
8. TMNT Hyperstone Heist Genesis
9. Call of Duty Black Ops 360
10. Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis
11. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Genesis
12. Sonic CD Sega CD *new*
13. Kung-Fu NES *new*
14. Mega Man 2 *new*
Sonic CD - My only complaint is that some levels are too long for the blue blur. Everything else is amazing, especially the soundtrack.
Kung-Fu -I 1cc'd it in probably under seven minutes. It's the only way to play it.
Mega Man 2 - I've beaten this game so many times all the challenge is gone. Zip, zero challenge. But! That doesn't mean I don't enjoy playing it over and over. Another amazing soundtrack.

1. Liberation Maiden (3DS) - 1/6
2. Dead Space (360) - 1/11
3. Anarchy Reigns (360) - 1/13
4. Dead Space 2 (360) - 1/17
5. Dead Space 2: Severed DLC (360) - 1/17
6. DmC Devil May Cry (360) - 1/22
7. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3) - 2/5
8. CoD of Duty (Web) - 2/7
9. Dragon's Dogma (360) - 2/12
I started getting sick last night, so I dug up a game I knew I could really get into over the weekend. I had started Dragon's Dogma over Christmas break, but got distracted with newer releases after the holiday season.
I'm really glad I dove back in, because Dragon's Dogma turned out to be surprisingly good. It was giving me strong Dark Souls vibes with its carefully crafted areas and dungeons, and with no fast travel you really had to seek out shortcuts across the land. It was also a pretty difficult game, and giant beasts could show up at almost any time.
I wasn't really ready to be done by the time I finished it, but not because it's a short game. There's just so much to do and see, and tons of classes to explore. There's a good chance I'll play through a New Game + or just pick up Dark Arisen.
