Trance Music Fans

Post by Sano »

So, I highly enjoy the trance and vocal trance genres of music; as well as the sub-genres of progressive and epic/uplifiting. My favorite DJ is of course Armin van Buuren and close 2nd is Dash Berlin. My favorite mix artist is DJ Doboy.

So, who else is into trance? Do you recommend any DJs?

The new Juno Reactor album sounds like an old Juno Reactor album (and that's a good thing)

I'm really enjoying this! It's really dark and ambient with some awesome textures.

Do you guys think that hardstyle killed hard trance? It seems to me like the genre has evolved from Hard Trance in early 2000s, to oldschool hardstyle in around 2003-2004/2005 or so, and from there on the genre became more melodical. And it doesn't seem like any of the previous sounds would've been produced ever since a shift occured. But I'm just a casual so there's a lot of stuff I haven't heard, but I'm basing my judgements on what ever is popular at the time.
It's actually quite crazy how both (mainstream) Hardstyle and Hardcore have "degenerated" so much over the years, both becoming immensely more popular when the genres became more about trance-esque melodies than banging hard basslines. Techno elitists would probably crucify me for this, but in a way I find oldschool Hardstyle tunes to be quite similiar to Techno. Minimalistic, repetitive, kinda boring in large doses. I'm not dissing techno btw.

I personally find the hardstyle made since 2009 or so to be inferioir to the tracks made in 2006-2008, but there is a far bigger divide between early hardstyle and the two incarnations of melodic hardstyle.
Anyway here's a classic Counter Strike video with a few classical hard trance tunes

I definitely wouldn't crucify you for it. In fact, I think you are right and I understand perfectly. My favorite genre of techno is just that loopy techno from around the millenium. Primate Records had some very good loopy techno with Ben Sims, Cristian Varela, Chris Liebing, Umek. It's the purest form of techno IMO. A modern electronic version of African Tribal music... ^^

Techno is not what it used to be either...

I bet you like those early 2000 Black Sensation CDs. They are a perfect example of techno meeting hardstyle in the middle... ^^

This is probably my favorite "banging" techno song. Here's another good one by Thomas Pogadl

Trance used to be different too, old trance is very different from modern epic mega wave your hands in the air dutch trance. The problem is that it's easier to sell short&saccharine experiences to people than something long, deep and intricate with subtle nuances. This is a problem in everything, food, movies, games, TV shows. Naturally products you can consume quickly and effortlessly will always be more popular, as long as more complex and demanding experiences don't vanish it's all good. I listen to to a lot of saccharine EDM myself, those long techno/ambient/[insert genre here] sessions require a right mindset, mood and time so you can truly enjoy them.
