Or you're not taking the advice of "you probably shouldn't have made that a big deal" and instead seeing it as arguing.

You know what, Sauce? I can feel you. Ain’t nothing wrong with asking for a receipt. If you were handing me four hundred dollars, I would write you a receipt. Shoot, I would take a photo shaking hands with you while holding up a newspaper showing today’s date.
It’s four hundred bucks, dude. If your gut tells you that something is queering the deal, then there’s nothing wrong with trusting your instinct.

Hi, I’m going to stop coming here for a while, maybe permanently.
Good luck to everyone. If I catch anyone on Xbox Live or Switch I’m down to play some games.

Asking anyone for a receipt over video games on craigslist I think would get most people a bit confused at the least, and likely to make some snarky comment. it's the internets garage sale. You don't like go up to a dude having a 7am yard sale and demand a receipt for a $100 of used crap off his front lawn do you? Someone did that to me I'd tell them to walk.

Asking for a bill of sale is a bit antiquated, but not unheard of, and it can help just to cover your butt with a paper trail. And $400 isn’t an unreasonable amount to ask for one. But given how unusual the request is these days it helps to let the seller know exactly why, otherwise they might suspect something weird, especially if they are young and may not have experienced that before.

In the business world, a cash receipt for
any amount is absolutely required. At a garage sale, it would be absolutely ridiculous to fill one out for $5 or $20. Different people might draw the line at different amounts, but surely there's an amount of money that would warrant making a receipt for. Even at a garage sale. Where I would draw the line would also depend on the seller and how trustworthy I think that person is. Or, yeah, if you're a business buying merch to resale. But I would have backed out at the snarky comment too. I'm tired of people being rude like that.
On an unrelated topic, something that ticked me off... I went to a hero shop yesterday on my lunch break. I'm in New York, on Long Island, so I asked for an American Hero. That's AKA American Sub or American Hoagie. And I don't know about out of New York, but here American Hero means
one thing. You can go to any deli or hero place and request this hero. You can go to any Superbowl party and find a 6' American Hero next to a 6' Italian Hero. I've successfully request an "American Hero" many times in my life.
So the guy starts initiating my order and starts taking other customer's orders. I over hear something about "American Classic" and "Ham and Provolone" so I get the guy's attention and ask what he's making me. Turns out he making me something on their menu called "The American Classic" that consists of ham and provolone. So I tell him sorry, but that's not what I want. I want an American Hero. He gets all snarky with me and states, "I don't know what that is." I was kinda surprised, because a hero shop on Long Island should absolutely know what an American Hero is. So I start describing it to him, "You know, it has..." and he continues to be snarky with me about it. He tells me I have to order a #6, add extra meat, and substitute the cheese. I end up paying $11 for a sandwich that has ham, turkey and American cheese on it... Which is very much NOT an American Hero.
I'm just tired of people being rude for no good reason. Did you take a hard poo this morning? Besides, I was the customer. Do what you're suppose to do. Say, "Sure thing, sir!" with a smile and then go in the back and trash me to your coworkers.

About the cash receipts: by that token, would you ask for a cash receipt when buying drugs from a dealer or supplier for any significant amount of weight?
And before anyone jumps in and says “drugs are illegal,” understand this: it is illegal but that’s because the government made it so. It’s still a business. Same thing goes for the dealing of body parts, assassinations requests, or any other illicit activities.
Someone mentioned it before: I’ll mess around with a cash receipt if it’s for the buying and selling of a product that requires registration to use, like a vehicle. Outside of that I don’t think it’s a big deal. That’s my opinion of course.
Now looking at it for tax purposes (also mentioned above) it sounds like the buyer wanted a cash receipt. The only scenario that makes sense in is if you purchased the games to resell them as part of a business you have fully registered with the state. You need to establish the cost of goods sold to show how much your products cost to acquire before being sold and generate revenues. In my experience that’s the only reason you want a cash receipt for the purchase and sale of products as a buyer. As a seller: you want a receipt generated to show you’ve sold a product and claim it as revenue, again under the context of a business transaction under a separate entity.
As someone who sees business and personal tax returns on a daily basis. I work for a bank who underwrites commercial loans. You want to claim revenues so you can show the bank you have the funds to pay the loan. You don’t declare, you don’t get the loan you want. This makes sense. Outside of this scenario it is indeed odd behavior and the seller picked up on it. Simple as that.
Being rude is one thing. I’ll give you that. However, on the flip side, being up front from the beginning and being clear in what your asking for and why something else.
Ziggy: as a New Yorker myself it always bothered me that for all the delis around in the same area there’s isn’t any consistency at all. My favorite is when they name sandwiches after sports teams: “yeah I’ll take a New York Giants please, and he’ll take a Mets.”
I typed all that on mobile. There’s a good chance some words may have gotten mangled up

Esauced did say he was considering starting a business. Perhaps he was further along in the process than we thought, or wanted to make sure that if he did it before the end of the year or the quarter, he could accurately report business taxes?
