We have mail-in early voting in Washington, so I already voted over a week ago.
Now I've just been constantly refreshing Nate Silver's statistical predictions and nervously waiting to find out which candidate will be up for an impeachment process as soon as he or she is sworn in.

Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
Saw some voter discouragement today. When waiting in our line, two separate women were told to come to this polling station after waiting in line at their normal polling station, only to get to the front and be told they needed to go back to their original station. They waited an hour in line to be told that. Guess what ethnicity they were?

Did they even let anyone else know that's why they were there? I didn't think you could vote at anywhere but your proper polling place. I would assume that's because they don't have the proper voter rolls to verify whether they are a valid voter or not. I don't think there's anything nefarious going on there.
Besides, there are people that wait hours to vote, and it doesn't have anything to do with ethnicity.
It also wouldn't surprise me if some poll workers don't have a clue how this stuff works.
(And to be really insensitive, ostensibly racist, sexist, bigoted, and any other pejorative I can think of, do we really know that the poll workers at their original polling place sent them over? Or are we simply going off of their word?)

I hope that they still voted. I think everyone should have a voice in our democracy, and I cannot stand efforts to restrict voting or make it less convenient for people to exercise their franchise. (North Carolina has been really, really bad about that recently, which is why I voted a nearly straight Democratic ticket this year.)BogusMeatFactory wrote:Saw some voter discouragement today. Unless you are in North Carolina, where according to a the federal courts, our state legislature targeted African-Americans "with almost surgical precision." Its proxies didn't give up after that defeat either...Sarge wrote:Besides, there are people that wait hours to vote, and it doesn't have anything to do with ethnicity.

The wait time isn't the issue. It is when you go to the poll you are told to go to and they send you somewhere else when you were genuinely supposed to go to the original place. Why would a person wait for an hour to put up an act and lie? That seems silly.Sarge wrote:Did they even let anyone else know that's why they were there? To potentially get another vote? Dunno. I'm just trying to look at this from all angles.
If it's legit (and it probably is, and it is probably just poll workers that are ignorant), then I certainly hope they get their votes cast.

Go vote. I did.
But yeah, go vote people.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

That's the plan, anyway. Going to head back home around 4:30 this afternoon. My polling place is about 45 minutes away (still registered back in my hometown).

Well, then I suppose I should say that for the record, I did see one person having trouble with the machines and not being able to cast their vote today. That person was white.
