What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Amazon usually gets things to me on release day if I preorder early enough. If I end up "preordering" a day or two ahead of time after reviews roll in, that's usually when it slips.
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
When Amazon is really late, I ask for some sort of compensation. Usually it is a free month of Prime or a partial refund. I got a pretty hefty refund for FFXV. They shipped it the day after it came out when I had preordered months in advance. I think I ended up paying like $30 for it with the refund and the Prime discount.
If I want to be sure that I can play it on the release date, I'd preorder at a nearby brick and mortar store. Also, if the game is any kind of special/collectors/limited edition, then it probably best to get that at a brick and mortar store as well. Amazon has always shipped those to me in a bubble mailer.

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
The state fair of Virginia fills me with nihilistic dread. I find it hard to articulate why this disgusting cavalcade bothers me so much. Everything that's tacky, gouache, disposable, low brow, cheap yet overpriced, neon, plastic, glittery, and awful all come together to make the state fair of Virginia. Today I have encountered equal parts crass commercialism and jingoistic nationalism. The man on the loudspeaker in the rodeo insists the whole crowd stand for the national anthem. Then a guy dressed as an Indian dances a stereotypical dance on one foot in a bizarre modernday minstrel show. I'm cringing so hard that my heart is breaking.
To make matters worse My girlfriend is running into the animal stalls uninvited and petting strangers livestock without considering the animal's temperament. She's running around the fair like a damn child - dashing in between moving vehicles while the drivers are trying to back their horse trailer up to the stalls. I lost count of how many times I told her to look where she's going and to leave stall doors closed. She's driving me up the wall.
Just when I think to myself, "go easy on her, Sam, she's just having fun", that's the moment she tries to pet a cow from behind. She scares the poor animal witless, and it starts to thrash around. The cow pins her up against a tin partition for a moment. The flimsy partition gives way and my girlfriend slips away mostly unharmed. Miracle she didn't get kicked.
One of the farmers takes it unto himself to lecture us both about sneaking up on cows from behind. The thing is, my girlfriend knows this stuff. She was in 4H. She grew up in the country. Hell, I grew up in the city, and even I know this. I'm absolutely mortified.
My girlfriend says I'm over reacting. I'm sitting on the bench next to the gate waiting for her to finish watching the rodeo. Somehow I'm the bad guy in all this. Later on I'm going to have to apologize for spoiling her fun.
The only thing I know for sure is that I cannot wait to leave the state fair of Virginia.

If she says anything to you about it, I want you to think about my dad. He was kicked in the leg by a horse a year ago and still can't walk without crutches. Go right on and "spoil her fun." At least she can fucking walk. You're doing the right thing.

Your dark attitude in that first paragraph about the rodeo and the rest fairly well does make you come off as a dick. You're in a place of people who are supposed to have fun and enjoy and you're turning it into some dark internal political statement.
But getting on her about jumping around animals scaring the hell out of them you're entirely in the right. Like the post just above I've been kicked before, race horse got me when I was working that job 12 years back. I'm surprised it didn't rip my thigh muscle off. I couldn't even walk for a good hour. The hit was so odd it didn't even surface the bruise for a day or two after and it stuck around for a long time. I wasn't a year on crutches but I had a good painful walk and limp for months. And why, because someone made some noise coming up on the animal outside the walking area we were in that morning much like your gf who got up on the cow.

Yeah, aggravating the animals is not cool. And that dude is a saint for just giving her a talking to, you pull that kind of stuff at a livestock show in my neck of the woods and there's a very good chance of a large argument/fist fight.
Mood has been swinging wildly lately. Don't know what is going on.

Cows and horses are powerful animals. They can absolutely kill you. She should know that.
Try to enjoy the rest of it, though.

My last paycheck was a measly $150something and I get paid every two weeks.
