Shenmue 3 Kickstarter
Re: Shenmue 3 Kickstarter
3rd/4th Quarter of 2017 is what they're shooting for Luke. You should step in and donate a couple million...know what I'm saying?

Re: Shenmue 3 Kickstarter
At this point I'm sad to say I'll be surprised if the Kickstarter breaks 4 million. That bout of negative press and pissy rumors did some real damage. Thanks internet.
Looking forward to seeing how this game turns out in the end. I hope Yu does the right thing and wraps up the rest of the story with this next release. I know it wasn't planned that way, but it'd be the smart thing to do.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

It is the end of the fiscal year today...Blu wrote:3rd/4th Quarter of 2017 is what they're shooting for Luke. You should step in and donate a couple million...know what I'm saying?
Is this a non-profit deal? Sorry for not doing my research, but if this is some kind of 501 c 3 deal, I'll jump on it! If they have a W-9, I'll jump on it!

I'm kinda worried how this game will turn out without reaching those stretch goals. I hope they take Paypal payments after the KS ends and continue to work towards the stretch goals.

Re: Shenmue 3 Kickstarter
I don't think you guys should be worrying just yet. Most Kickstarter campaigns hit a lull after a couple of days and don't pick up again until near the end. There are still 17 days left to go. Once you get down to a couple, the on-the-fence folks will start chucking in money.Reprise wrote:YupExhuminator wrote:At this point I'm sad to say I'll be surprised if the Kickstarter breaks 4 million. I don't think we need to be worried just yet. I think we will hit 5M at least. The 30 on the 3rd Campaign could help drop some extra change in the bucket. If they enable Paypal, we can continue funding similarly to Star Citizen and that's where the bulk of their money was received. Then you don't have to worry about kickstarter taking its fees, etc. All that money will go directly to development.
There's no reason to be worried. I think the negative press is not all that concerning. That and there's this exciting update that Cedric is supposedly going to announce on the kickstarter. Physical Release, Paypal, or HD Remasters could all be something that could be on the horizon this evening. I'm excited.

Are you asking about this in relation to Kickstarter, or the Shenmue III project? I can't imagine that backing a kickstarter could be classified as a charitable donation, but Shenmue III production itself is decidedly not non-profit. They'll be selling the game at retail once it's finished. If you were actually interested in privately investing in the project, you might try contacting Cedric Biscay, the co-producer from Shibuya Productions. He's probably the most likely person to put you in contact with Ys Net, if they were interested.Luke wrote:Is this a non-profit deal? I'd recommend Kicktraq.com for anyone looking to keeping up with the state of the kickstarter. It's honestly trending very similarly to Mighty No 9 and Bloodstained, so far. That is, with some much more pronounced peeks and valleys. The main thing that's yet to be determined is if Shenmue III can pick up steam into the final stretch like those other two did. If Biscay is hinting at updates like DRM-free, physical release, or alternate platform announcements, then those could certainly lead to an upswing in backers. If Shenmue III could continue to trend similarly to Might No 9 and Bloodstained, it might potentially land at $6M by the end of the campaign.
I honestly don't think replica items are such great ideas for reward tiers, though. They're potentially a lot more cost than benefit to the funding. I sent them some suggestions on adding things that would implement fan input into the final product like allowing fans to design capsule toys, or have someone's pet used as a capsule toy or pet for Ryo to interact with like the kitten from the original Shenmue: Things that people would potentially throw a fair amount of money at that don't bring much in the way immediate costs to the funding. Other than more physical releases, or stickers/pins/etc, there isn't much that Ys Net could could viably add to intermediate ($39-250) tiers to move people off of the $39 tier. The average donation is at $81 now, anyway. (Compared to $85 for Bloodstained.)
On a side note, it would be nice if they added the theme song from the official Shenmue III website to the KS page.

Well, it's a relief they secured the English voice actor for Ryo. Can never be too sure.
