So it's basically like a Wii. 99% turd, 1% awesome.
I keep it simple: I like metal.

I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!
Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
I'm all for simpilicity, but metal is too broad a spectrum to just say "I like metal." If someone were to tell me that in casual conversation, there's a 95% chance that I won't like anything they listen to, or that they'll have heard of anything that I like. And I listen to a ton of metal.

Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
You make an excellent point. I just get frustrated when I have to classify what kind of metal I like to listen sometimes but I see exactly what you're saying. It's my favorite genre of music and when I am aksed "what kind of music do you listen to?" I usually just say metal even though I listen to all kinds of metal. Unless I am speaking to antoher metalhead than I just don't have the patience to explain the differences to the uneducated!

I think sometimes it's easier to just say you like (insert band or artist here)

Actually I think I get more "oh you like Cinderella/Poison/(other glam bands)?" comments more than "oh you like (modern hard rock)"?
Most discussion I have about metal with people I know irl rarely leaves the Black Sabbath/Judas Priest realm. I don't even bother mentioning more extreme/obscure stuff unless I've gotten some indication that they'll at least know what I'm talking about.

Which does zero good if the person you're talking to has never heard of them... I find common ground before I just go off on a tangent about the things I like. Always. My biggest pet peeve is when people yabber on as if you give a shit when I truly do not, and I avoid putting other people in that situation.Gamerforlife wrote:I think sometimes it's easier to just say you like (insert band or artist here)

Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
Yep. A lot of people, especially at my school, don't know what death metal or Viking metal is. It's useless to try an explain a genre of music so my solution is just to let them listen to it. If someone asks whether I like Disturbed or Skrillx or whatever I usually just say "I don't really listen to them" and ask them to hear some Ensiferum.
Hard to describe music with words, huh?

I like these guys, too. I just discovered them on the DVD I ordered, Monsters of Metal Vol. 6, which I have a post about earlier in this thread. So they're a pretty new band, for me.Gamerforlife wrote:I didn't know about this until just now. New album last month from Eluveitie!!! I LOVE these guys!!!![]()

Here's a video
Even though they sound great, I can't help but bust up when I see the guy getting down on the flute in the videos.
I listen to all kinds of different metal. I'm across the spectrum. So to say "I like Metal" is a lot easier for me.sabrage wrote:I'm all for simpilicity, but metal is too broad a spectrum to just say "I like metal." Not a genre, a type of lyrics. Even Amon Amarth, arguably one of the frontrunners of the 'genre' say it doesn't exist.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:Yep.
