I picked up Valkyria Chronicles II at Gamestop today, so I'll probably start playing that soon. I LOVED the first one, so I'm super excited for the second one.

You're in for a good time.

I just checked my HLTB records to see when it was that I beat it. Turns out that was May 22nd, 2013. Apparently I did every classmate, key, paid, and story mission that became available during the first run of the main game. I didn't touch the post-game optional missions though. My run took me 46 hours. This was my review from three years ago:
Valkyria Chronicles II is one of the most amazing strategy games I've ever played. And I've been playing the genre since ye olde days of X-COM and Shining Force. VCII is simply a wonderful evolution of the genre, thanks to its innovative BLiTZ (Battle of Live Tactical Zones) combat system. This method of turn based initiative versus real time execution reveals new stratagems that continuously improve in subtle ways the longer you play. BLiTZ battling is just awesome, end of story.

Speaking of story, a lot of people hated VCII's plot. Well, by the end of the game, I actually cared about quite a few of these cadets, and the plot touched my heart in tangible emotive ways. Not the least of which being the way this game handles racism. I've never seen a game even talk about racism, let alone allow the player to witness first hand the effects of its ugliness and be affected by it directly. That aspect alone proves VCII's story is more than just filler.

Gameplay-wise, you will have a massive learning curve at the front of the game, and all the way to the end you'll still be learning new tricks. Granted I thought this game was too easy, but there are still times you'll actually have to use viable strategy to win, not just attrition. My only true complaint against VCII is that it's ultimately all about quantity versus quality, insofar as mission design is concerned. There are a TON of nearly identical missions in this game, I would have preferred less repetition and more variety in objectives and layouts.

All in all though, I loved this game and I recommend it strongly to any SRPG fan out there. After about 46 hours and tons of missions, I walked away from VCII feeling like I'd had a wonderful experience, because VCII is all about the gameplay in the end. It has a few flaws sure (Avan's laugh...), but not being fun is certainly not one of them. Because when it comes to being absolutely entertaining, Valkyria Chronicles II is mission accomplished.
I would have written a better review these days, but obviously I enjoyed it.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

The most astonishing thing is finding a PSP game at GameStop. The other week I asked where the PSP games were and the clerk said "Right next to our Atari games! Hahahahahah lolololoilolol."

I think I'm gonna buy the two Rayearth games for Game Boy and play through them. Why the hell not.

And you then replied, "Ah, good show. Take me there at once!" And then grew irate when he proved unable to do so.

The Gamestop in Henderson actually has a whole rack of PSP games. Granted, only like six of them have the original cases, but still, there's a decent selection. Not great, but decent. I bought six today - Valkyria Chronicles II, Phantasty Star Portable (the only one with the case), Star Trek: Tactical Assault, Silent Hill: Origins, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, and Pinball Hall of Fame: the Gottlieb Collection.

Yeah, for the most part, they compress all their stock into certain stores. They had them for a while around here, then they shipped them to the next town over, and then they were gone. I think they were B2G2 for a while, as well.

I've gotten lucky enough to score a few gems, including Hexyz Force and Crimson Gem Saga. And I finally tracked down the last (generic, mundane) Legend of Heroes on PSP.

Not safe for Popo:
When you guys/gals fire up The Legend of Zelda do you make a beeline straight for the first dungeon or go on a giant scavenger hunt first? Cuz I totally go on a giant scavenger hunt.

Aww... I liked the first Legend of Heroes released on PSP. But then again I love Crimson Gem Saga. I also don't know what you paid for Hexyz Force, but all around good score sir.

*enthusiastic thumbs up*

I grab the sword first. THEN, I head to the first dungeon. I am weird that way, though.

Oh, I was just making light of a previous discussion. They seem solid, but they don't hold a candle to Chrono Trigger. As far as Hexyz Force goes, I dropped I believe around $16-17 for it. Price is all over the place on eBay, but that's not terrible for a disc-only copy.
