I bet Dsh would feel better if he bought a Wii U.
I plan to, I just don't see any reason to jump on one yet. I still expect it to be basically belly up after the holidays and if I can get the system and the 3-4 games that interest me for under $200 this time next year that's worth waiting for...

I've played through about 10 games on the PS4/Xbox One as well as played parts of about 10 additional games on them, so I don't feel like there's been a shortage of titles that interest me in the ~6 months they've been out. I've been supplementing with older games (including PS3 stuff), just as always...

Definitely glad I didn't get a PS4/Xbone yet. Titanfall and Killer Instinct have been a blast to play with one of my friends at his place, but that's about it. Everything else is on the PS3/PC anyways. I'm just about not seeing anything in the near future that'll change my mind either at this point. Did the next gen really happen?

I've had the Wii U since near launch, and I have played my PS4 many times over the amount I have logged on the Wii U.

I kind of like the Wii U controller, but nothing is that compelling in the games library to me.

@RetroGamer @wclem

To be fair you have to compare the PS4/XboxOne to the Wii U's library in April 2012 . I am always against buying new consoles : No games, almost sure problems with hardware, usually higher specs and better software updates in the future. In comparison, last generation would have a strong library, best spec, cheap prices and the best of games have been already released for the system. I still remember how people were waiting for GT5..

@Xeogred

I am still thinking whats the plan for next generation, I hardly see console manufacturers offer anything different or better with this new generation. Nintendo tried to use the tablet to convince people to upgrade/buy their console but that is not working very well.

As for graphics, its really hard to look at Arkham City on the ps3 and say "Those graphics are outdated/bad/unenjoyable/unacceptable "

How so? I thought the Wii was better. It plays Wii and NGC games, you can hack it to emulate a lot of consoles so easily and then you have the VC which has much more games than Wii U.

Obviously not quite the same, but, Nintendo is still offering refurb Nintendo Land 32GB bundles for $200.

Between Smash and MK8 though, I'd expect a pretty good holiday for them, nevermind whatever announcements they might have for 2015 games by then.

Well yeah, I like the Wii better too. But by "modern console" I was referring to the 8th gen - Wii U, PS4, Xbone... The Wii is about 8 years old now!

Anyhow, I typically don't like modern video games and won't buy a modern console unless there's a good amount of retro stuff I can play on it - either literal ports of classic games, games that are "retro" in design, or sequels to long-standing series. I was sold on the Wii immediately because of the Mario and Zelda titles. Same goes for the Wii U. I wasn't interested in the PS3/Xbox 360 at all until Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and (sigh) Final Fantasy XIII hit shelves. Same way I feel about this gen - Titanfall, Battlefield 4, and inFamous aren't going to sway me to drop $400/$500.

While they will sell great amongst the existing install base, I'm not convinced that either title (or both) will move consoles. I suppose time will tell.

That said, I could get interested in a holiday bundle with Mario Kart + some other game for $200...

It has, but the sad thing is so many games were announced exclusively for these new consoles and the good ones have gotten delayed several times or I don't know what....

I'm pretty sure it will move consoles but not like people think it will. I remember when Resident Evil 4 came out on the Gamecube, there was a huge spike in sales for the Gamecube during that time but went right back down to the normal levels. If anything, the Wii U's sales will spike for a few weeks then come right back down to normal. I'm pretty sure at this time we have somewhat leveled out in sales. Though granted the PS3 did not pick up steam until a couple of years later, but I just can't see the Wii U doing the same thing at this point.

As I said before, people have already predetermined if they will get a Wii-U. Everyone already knows Mario Kart/Zelda/Smash Bros/Metroid in some form is coming to the Wii-U, so it's not really going to change the Wii-Us "problem".

If they want to expand, they need to either get the rights to other titles that hit demographs they usually don't hit (like with Monster Hunter) or get a new ip that obviously becomes trendy. The latter isn't particularly likely, and the former will only work to modest levels knowing Nintendo's relations with other companies and how the industry is moving away from exclusives in general.
