Still need to hope that it comes out in English as of now that Ages series is locked to Japan. I'd so buy the original Phantasy Star as it was a favorite. PS2 was ok, but it dragged out pretty heavy and hasn't aged well and 3 I didn't care for. I never tried PS4 though to be fair and heard it's awesome.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I cannot even express how much I love the Phantasy Star games. I won't be getting this on Switch, but I'm stoked that other people will be exposed to the game/series.

So Playasia publishes games like LimitedRun as Eastasiasoft. The first is Dimension Drive (out now), the second is being announced shortly, the third was guessed and is Shikhondo - Soul Eater to be released in Q4.

Yep. I have the Dimension Drive CE on my bst list. It's a cool concept w/ the left/right planes, but I prefer shmups without a "campaign."fastbilly1 wrote:So Playasia publishes games like LimitedRun as Eastasiasoft. Shikhondo looks good to me, but I'll wait for reviews.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
The Switch is pretty much my primary console and I play almost nothing BUT Splatoon 2 but after Splatfest I'm going back to Ys VIII.
I have a PS4 as well but I own that pretty much as a means to play Yakuza.

They're a bit more pro-consumer than Limited Runfastbilly1 wrote:So Playasia publishes games like LimitedRun as Eastasiasoft. The first is Dimension Drive (out now), the second is being announced shortly, the third was guessed and is Shikhondo - Soul Eater to be released in Q4.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
I had an unintentional Switch break, just knocked off the sad last parts of Chapter 2 in Ys and did the opener with the girl for Ch3 until it got me back into the camp with pointers heading north for those keeping up on their own. Not sure where I am with this, but it's still a fun title. I just wish I'd play it more, just so bad about that for some dumb reason.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
So I've been really enjoying my Lucas Scott run through the story mode of NBA 2K18 (and chronicling it in the What Sports Game Are You Playing? thread), however something that has struck me as odd: apparently you can't take screenshots in this game. I haven't happened upon this before, but yeah 2K removed the function for this game any others they have published I guess. Kind of weird, and a bummer.

Dead Cells is a phenomenal game and I'm completely addicted, but I do wonder if I will ever complete it. Anyone else playing?

No. But I'm interested. I've been on the fence about picking it up. Is Spelunky x Castlevania a fair summary?Reprise wrote:Dead Cells is a phenomenal game and I'm completely addicted, but I do wonder if I will ever complete it. Anyone else playing?

Unfortunately I'm not actually familiar with Spelunky. It's not a game I have played. Dead Cells is a rogue game, with some inspiration from Castlevania and, to a lesser extent, Dark Souls.noiseredux wrote:No. But I'm interested. I've been on the fence about picking it up. You begin the game with a rusty sword and can choose either a bow and arrow or a shield as a secondary weapon (I recommend the bow and not bothering with the shield). You then explore procedurally-generated levels, trying to make your way through each one. Enemies gradually get more diverse and more difficult and can quickly take you out with ease. Combat is simple, but also quite deep. You have to learn enemy patterns and learn to dodge and attack at the right moments. Finding new weapons and skills also adds variety to the combat. Exploring allows you to find power ups, money, blueprints for new weapons/upgrades, new skills, shops and new weapons. At the end of the level, you can then turn in souls absorbed from enemies to work towards upgrades (you will also gain the blue prints you found at this point and will be able to start putting souls into those skills). Once you've done that you can add a 'mutator' (e.g. earn 2 hp for every enemy you kill etc).
The main Castlevania element is the runes you can find. These are permanent power ups that allow you to progress or traverse to new parts of levels that you couldn't before. This is key to opening new areas you couldn't otherwise reach.
If you die, you start from the beginning, losing your souls, weapons, money etc., but keep your rune abilities and the upgrades you have earned, meaning each run gradually gets slightly easier. Especially as you learn and adapt to the different enemy types and the obstacles you come to expect in each new level.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Sounds closer to Rogue Legacy x Castlevania then. Still interested. May well pick it up in the near future. Thanks!
