It's funny when you see something like that. It's either incredibly amazing, or not real (as in he's not sight reading).

But anyways, I watched a bunch of the vids. I fucking wish I could play piano like that, even after hours of practicing a piece, and not just from sight reading. I find piano to be the hardest instrument to play, and I was just talking with a friend that agreed with me that sight reading piano is impossible.

It's only impossible if you haven't played it for a significant amount of time. I can sight read for piano somewhat decently, though there are still songs that are ridiculously hard to do that on.

Though I've played piano since I was five, so that may have something to do with it.

Sight reading with piano is indeed pretty difficult. I'd probably be able to do some basic stuff but nothing too heavy. I can sight read with guitar no problem though.

My ex could sight read piano - she could even kind of play a song just by listening to it. My current girlfriend can also a little bit sight read, as she proved when I placed the Main Theme from Final Fantasy IV in front of her.

Yeah, I can do that too, depending on the song. That's significantly harder if you're trained in classical; however, I'd rather hear a song before playing with no sheet music than play a song with sheet music that I've never heard before.

What I can't understand is how dueling pianists do that stuff. It's like they've played every song imaginable beforehand and memorized it. It's nuts. I couldn't ever do that.
