That's where I'm at as one of the backers. I really don't care about the delays. My spirits were crushed with the demo. It's clear that even if they did some major overhauls since then (and all of their communication has pointed to no, they were just working on online stuff) I'm still probably not going to be that into it.

I agree the drama is ridiculous though. There was always a chance this game wouldn't be that good despite its pedigree. Just take the hit and move on. Two of my contenders for GOTY have already come out and more are on the way.

Yeah I agree with this. I don't like Dark Souls, Earthbound or Star Fox, but I acknowledge they are great games

And no elkin, that quote is 100% pure crap. A rushed game is usually bad but not always so, but also a game that keeps getting delayed can also have a very strong chance of being bad or at least a sad shell of what it should have been. Back when I was at Midway I ended up for 9mo on Legion for PS2 (a king arthur type game) and the final product they slammed the door on it and made it what it is because 7 Studios was a cash draining pile of fuck ups. The original game had more characters, more stages, more story, story that made sense, a good selection of items to find and use. The final game has 1/2 the stages, some of the characters, a non-sense plot, all the items you find mostly do nothing or are useless crap, the textures and land were dumbed down and mudded in earthtones, and ultimately it's like some weakly done wannabe Gauntlet with no soul. I'm being harsh, it's fine for a budget title but never was intended to be. Delays can be death as much as rushing to market.

Though yes, I don't get the nuts who are viciously attacking anyone who's still excited for the game.

I wasn't super thrilled about Doom but that blew my socks off and also had a mediocre demo, so who knows?

I think we can say, though, that delays happen for myriad reasons. If it's happening for polish, and you have the talent to make it work, it can only help. Like most of Nintendo's stuff. And Elkin has a lot of qualifiers on that statement.

No, what kills games more than anything is upheaval, bad management, teams that don't work well together, a lack of money, a lack of talent, or big combinations of all those that no amount of time can really fix. Just the nature of working with other people in a cutthroat industry.

The scary thing, of course, is that some games are actually better if they are rushed a bit. Some folks don't work well without pressure, and some artists in particular (*cough*hideokojima*cough*) can stand to use some folks to say, "Dude, it's ready, it's time to stop adding more stuff." Less sometimes is more.

I think that quote/paraphrase from Miyamoto is correct in certain contexts. It's very true in Nintendo's. It's not universally true, but I suspect he didn't mean for it to be. Given the willingness to do what is necessary in the development of a game, a delayed game will turn out well, but a rushed one will never really hit what it could have been.

Unless, you know, you patch it up after launch these days. :P

Wait, it's coming out next week!? I did not know this. I have it pre-ordered and I swear the retailer still had its release down as TBC last time I checked, which I was sure was only a couple of weeks back.

I just read a few days ago that it's coming out June 24 or 21 one of those two. Not next week.
