Anyone who has one, how is MAME on it. I know you can load MAME4All, and play most 70s and 80s games with no problem. But beatemups is what I care about mostly.

This is interesting, whoever owns the rights to arcade games, why are they not re-releasing. I know some do but they are minority I believe. Plus most releases are usually the console ports. For example, I would like to play Michael Jackson Moonwalker but its not released on any modern system AFAIK. Ouya+MAME+arcade stick could be great alternative to buying arcade cabinets

When I finished renovating the 2nd floor of my Cape Cod and moved up there, I got an Ouya under the theory of "cheap and easy way to do Netflix and emulation from bed"... and it works well enough for that. I honestly don't use it very much, but I was *VERY* impressed with the Nostalgia frontend for emulators. I coughed up the dough for the 16 gig version because if I'm going to have a tiny box like the Ouya, I'd rather not use big external drives to store stuff, and 8 gig seemed smallish, though in retrospect I'm REALLY only doing NES/SNES emulation (since that's where my main nostalgia is) so I probably didn't need to do that.

But overall, it's a decent little box. I don't truly consider it a full fledged console per se, I see it more as a clone system/specialized computer/etc. Like if you were listing "Seventh generation consoles", I would never include an Ouya. Just like I wouldn't think to include an iPad or an Android tablet, nor would I consider a RetroN5 as a 7th gen console (or 3rd or 4th or any other gen), it's just different in my mind.

Next time I get some time off, I'll try out MAME, though I don't have any USB fighting sticks to try. I actually don't have a problem with the standard Ouya controller either, I know that's a common complaint though.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

So I traded RSG a couple spare NES and PSX games for his Ouya. It sat on my computer table for a few weeks and I finally got to dive into it last night. The actual interface is awkward to use and the trackpad on the controller is a joke. But plugging in a mouse and keyboard made the entire experience much easier and quicker. It took me a whopping 30 minutes to install and configure:
Retroarch
Es File Browser
Humble Bundle app
Amazon app - Chuchu rocket!
Sadly the Humble app is not seeing my android games, but I can fix that by just downloading the apks via humble.

So I loaded up some roms and decided to see what it can do. My usual benchtest roms are games that I know well, and every one of them ran equal to or better than the Wii version of Retroarch. DS games do not work well on DSemume, but Drastic runs everything much better. I also did not stress test the arcade emulator because the only roms I had handy were Neogeo and I do not have the bios on hand. It handled GT Advance just aswell as a real GBA, and Mother 3 plays exceptionally well.

If I could force it to display in 4:3 I would install it in my iMac and get some of the 8bitdo NES and FC controllers for it.

It'll support a 360 controller through USB.

And, if you install Wii Controller IME you can likely use a Wii remote anywhere on the device.

Wii U Pro Controller works great on it.

The Ouya is a fun toy to mess around with. I didn't enjoy it in stock form but with a desktop interface and the help of some Android apps it made a neat, low powered computer.

Wowowow, what desktop interface?

My original purpose was to stick this in my iMac G3, but the Ouya does not support the monitor - 14inch 4:3.

I was curious about this, too, so I looked it up. What do you know, someone actually figured out how to make custom roms for the Ouya! Cyanogen ported their rom to it, and it seems to work just fine, albeit with the obvious loss of a touchscreen.

Saturday night plans just got canned.
