Wow! Wonder Woman # 2 was way better than the first issue. They actually got down to the business of telling an actual damn story in this issue, unlike the first issue, which felt like a convoluted movie trailer. Issue 1 was heavy on style and light on substance. # 2 told an easy to follow story, had some good dialog and characterization, had a far better action sequence than the first book and managed to feel epic without overdoing it(which the first book did). I always say it's best to keep things simple, and this issue didn't feel as over the top and overdone as issue # 1. We actually learn a bit about Diana for the newcomers, unlike issue # 1 which told us NOTHING about her and we even get a little actual personality from her in this issue. I like what they did with the visual storytelling and panels in this issue too, particularly the one fight scene that everyone who reads it will probably bring up

I'm actually tempted to stay with the series after this issue.

Even with there being so many members of the Bat family, I still view Dick as his true successor and from what I have heard he filled that role well while Batman was away(I haven't actually read those books where he was Batman). Dick's my favorite Robin, though they are all cool in their own way(aside from the Robin name and costume, which I hate)

It's fun how all these different characters, even with them having their own lives and personalities, still have Bruce's shadow over them. In both the new Batgirl book and the Huntress mini-series, there is a moment where they do something and comment on how Batman would have done it better. There's a brief reference to the Robin identity starting the whole teen superhero thing in Teen Titans # 1 and it's not surprising to see Batman's presence in the first issue of Batwoman either without being too spoilery
Dick Grayson is definitely my favorite of the apprentices and it was awesome when he took up the role of Batman; it was great to read him reflecting on that experience in the first issue of Nightwing.

Thank God for that... I was bored out of my mind reading through the first issue. I'm actually looking forward to getting my copy of #2 now, lol. I'm still not sold on Cliff Chiang's art style, but it could've (definitely) been worse. So I can't really complain, heh.

His art style doesn't bother me, but those covers on the first two issues are kind of bland to me. The book needs some better cover art. I've been spoiled by the cover art of Buffy and the Angel and Faith books by Darkhorse(Steve Morris and Joe Chen do some amazing stuff). So I kind of expect a lot from the covers of the various DC books I'm currently checking out and the Wonder Woman covers haven't knocked my socks off. Definitely love those Batgirl covers by Adam Hughes though

Teen Titans, Green Lantern Corps, Batgirl and Batman have all impressed me with their interior art. I just like the style of those particular artists, particularly Greg Capullo's Batman. There's something fun about the way he draws him. Speaking of art, I'm glad to see someone I've briefly met and talked to doing the art on Men of War. Tom Derenick is his name. I'm glad he's getting work. I actually have two books autographed by him from a Venom book and a Blade book he did for Marvel years ago. He used to hang out in a local comic shop I frequented when I lived in Scranton, PA.

I didn't actually enjoy reading Men of War much though. I don't really get into this military type stuff. I rarely watch war movies and don't play a lot of shooter video games either. Not my thing. I hear Alpha this, bravo that, and see men running around with guns and I just get bored

I picked up a big red hardcover Daredevil book from the library, it's just called Daredevil by Frank Miller, no subtitle. It looks like a big collection of the first Daredevil comics, so I'm going to read through them. Find out what the fuss about this series is, since I've never been exposed to it before.

I'm movin' at a snails pace... I've got a huge stack of comics I have to read through but I'm barely getting through a comic a day. Going to have to dedicate some time in the near future and get caught up, lol.

Today I got around to reading the second issue of Catwoman which has resulted in the comic shooting up and tying with Batgirl at the top spot of my favorite comic out of the new 52. The first one was alright, a bit too sensual for some sensitive wittle readers, but overall... it's Catwoman (seriously, what do you expect?). The second issue is outstanding, albeit a tad predictable but there's action and some impactful scenes masterfully woven into the narrative which has justified my subscribing to the series.

I'll be checking out the first two issues of Catwoman soon myself

I have to say, Batman the Dark Knight is pretty crappy. I've read issues 1 and 2 and I don't think I'll be picking up issue # 3. The dialog is bad and the whole thing feels like one of those summer blockbuster movies that you have to turn your brain off for. It's all over the top action, roided up looking villains and lots of violence and shouting. This book is all style and no substance. It's like some little kid tried to make the ultimate Batman book. The second issue actually crams in appearances by every Gotham super hero connected to Batman and it's almost like they did that just because they could and not to enhance the story in any way. Fan service alone does not make a great book

Don't think I like David Finch's writing, it feels very amateurish

On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised with Birds of Prey # 2. Good dialog, nice action, two cool new members of the team and I just found myself liking the personality coming from these girls in this issue. There's a lot of charm that comes through in this issue. I will be definitely getting issue # 3 as I think this is going to be a fun series.

Got All Star Westerns #2. Blegh. Good storytelling, but not letting Moritat do the coloring screwed how the book looked. And I'm glad they are bringing in other characters, though El Diablo needed a better introduction. It was kinda poorly done.

Anyone reading Green Lantern: The New Guardians?

Image

We're only 2 issues in, but I'm enjoying it. Kyle feels like Kyle again as I'm reading it. Since Green Lantern: Rebirth, everything has been fan-freaking-tastic in the Green Lantern titles, except for the fact that Kyle Rayner seemed to be pushed to the back of the crowd, and when he did make an appearance it wasn't the Kyle that I had read for 10 years under the pens of Ron Marz and Judd Winnick.

Other than the fact that I'm getting one my favorite characters back, it's also been an exciting 2 issues. All the Lantern Corps (except GL Corps) are after Kyle because for some reason, one of each of their rings are following him around. Also the disturbing changes with the Guardians of the Universe are explored more deeply here than the other GL titles. And what a final panel at the end of issue #2. Never have seen someone possessing every ring at once yet, have we? I remember a few combinations, but I don't remember ALL of them at once.

So I checked this out from the local library and just finished it today. I really enjoyed reading about Bruce having to figure out each era and survive it. I especially liked how each era had it's own artist, giving each it's own distinct flair.

However I am super-confused about the ending. What the hell happened? What exactly was that thing affecting Bruce? How did Darkseid's Omega Beams create that rather than frying Bruce? And it's driven by thought and idea which means it's unstoppable? WHAT?! And what exactly was the techno-Venom Symbiote-like suit thingy that was wiggling around all over Batman at the end? If I understood that then at least I'd get an idea of why they had to kill and resuscitate Bruce to get it off of him

I've only gotten around to the first issue so far, and I enjoyed it. Nothing all that special, honestly, but the heat escalated pretty quick and I'm interested to see how it plays out.

Spoilers Imminent:

So I've gotten through the second issues of Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Detective Comics, The Dark Knight, Justice League and... that's all I can remember right now.

Birds of Prey just got more interesting. The first issue was alright, but the second one actually brings a lot to the table that could manifest into an awesome story. Ivy looks unique in this comic, lol, if it wasn't for the out-of-place greenery I couldn't have guessed it was her.

Wonder Woman... I like where it's going, but the dialogue throws me off. I'm not a big fan of the way it's being written, but I am enjoying the direction the story is taking. It's already hit the fan towards the end of the issue, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the confrontation in the next issue.

Supergirl; I was so harshly critical on the artwork of the first issue (which I thought was atrocious... okay, not atrocious, just bad). The second issue is better; not much better but better. Looking at the cover art for the next few issues the visuals look like they're going to improve. I just hope they can finally get the ball rolling with the third issue. She's landed, she's getting herself acquainted with the locals, Superman, yeah... let's get on with it now.

I'm excited for Detective Comics! Good ol' Batman formula and they're already putting major support characters in jeopardy. I only wish the same could be said for The Dark Knight which, with the second issue, has completely (and I repeat COMPLETELY) turned me off. David Finch... what happened!? You just lost a subscriber that's what happened...

Justice League... #2 didn't live up to the hype that #1 brought on. I'm a huge Jim Lee fan and while I don't like the artist being the only saving grace for a comic to stay on my subscription list *cough*Red Lanterns*cough* that is the case as of the second issue.

Oh yeah, also read Green Lantern #2. I'm liking it! Hawk & Dove... issue three is the last chance they're getting.
