What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Been smiling for the last few days. My wife and I had our first child (boy) on Thursday night! If he's anything like me were screwed.

That is so great. Congratulations! You have so many sleepless nights (and fantastic times) in front of you! (Just be sure to make time for gaming...handhelds will be your best friend for a while.)

As someone who's unfortunately participated in the thread in question; I believe that thread has been detrimental to this forum and its membership. I would love to see it locked forever. If people are so driven to have political debates on a forum, there are true political forums dedicated to the concept. Hence I came to the conclusion that coming to a retro video game forum, and fighting about politics, is a bit silly. I know others won't feel the same, so fair enough. (After all, there are people who debate in that thread, who I never see talk about playing video games outside of it.) After internal reflection, I just stopped participating. I never saw anything positive or enlightening happening in that thread, quite the opposite actually.

I agree I'm skimming it now and again but not writing all the time. I don't see a point as I find usually irrational left leaning types can not ever be reasoned with on how their ideas cause problems any more than a right leaning religious type wants to shovel their dogma as public law/policy which is a no no too. This board leans left, it's no mystery, but to have one horrible thread like that which endlessly goes in circles is pointless. Save it for a war room or better yet, a politics site, unless you want to really grow to dislike, distrust or hate someone because of their perceived warped sense of thinking. I bet it is safe to say enough people after that thread probably question how they think of someone else now or future conversations/dealings potentially too.

Tanooki, if that thread is so bad, stop posting run-on nonsense in it. And don't bring the political accusations into this thread, either. We can discuss closing the thread without perpetuating the discussion in the thread.

But really, people who don't like the thread can simply not read it. The mere presence of that thread doesn't do harm to the rest of the forum. There is a reason the thread is in a non-game area of the forum. And politics is important to people. If that kind of content doesn't have a dedicated area it will start to leak into other threads as people want to talk about it. Better to have it sectioned off into its own space so it can act as a release valve.

+1

We used to discuss politics in this thread. A dedicated thread people are free to ignore is much better.

Agreed. I think we'd be better off without political discussions on the forum in general, but I'm more than happy to have a single clusterfuck thread as a compromise.
