Feel your pain I was down a little over 2 weeks on my only computer which is my i7 980 radeon card laptop because of a HDD catastrophic cluster failure.
I was stuck using a bluetooth keyboard, stylus, and my shield tablet for the time.

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Smile:
When we moved two months ago, one of our cats immediately went missing. We'd had this cat for a few years before this. I thought coyotes ate it. But said cat actually showed back up recently, rather emaciated, but still healthy overall. I have no idea why she disappeared, but she's an inside cat now, like it or not. Not letting her outside anymore after that.
Ticked:
After having moved here, it hadn't rained nearly the entire time. Two nights ago, we had a deluge of rain, damn near monsoon quality. After that, the landline phone started acting erratically (I have a landline phone in my home office for work). The phone would generate random phantom incoming calls, and finally it just said "no line", with no dial tone. I figured the rain had gotten into the connections box outside. So I called Windstream and asked them to come look at it. Last night the phone was doing the phantom ringing thing again, so I just unplugged it from the wall.
Then at 3:30AM, I was deep asleep. Suddenly I was woken up by our terrier and boxer barking their heads off (they sleep in the master bedroom with us). I start groggily telling them to shut up and go to bed, thinking they'd heard coyotes or other dogs barking. My wife says, "There's someone knocking at the door." I reply rather annoyed; "Who the hell would be knocking on our door at 3:30AM." So I get up and stumble my not awake ass to the front door and crack it open. A police officer is standing on my porch looking at me concernedly. I'm thinking he's about to tell me an escaped convict is loose in the area. "Sir, I've come here tonight because we've just received a 911 call from this residence, is everything okay?"
So I start trying my best to explain that the landline has been acting insane since it rained, and that the phone must have randomly generated 911 tones somehow, and that I'd called Windstream about it already. Meanwhile I'm hoping he doesn't look through the glass part of the door and see me holding a .44 special revolver and get the wrong idea. (Or if he did see it, I guess he realizes that when you live in a house in the middle of the woods and someone knocks on your door at 3:30AM, you might answer with some trepidation.) So the officer left (I was surprised he didn't want to check around inside), and I went back to bed very annoyed at the phone. But then I remembered that the only landline phone was disconnected from the jack. So how in the world did my landline call 911 at three in the morning? I don't know. I've called Windstream again this morning trying to get them to expedite the case before my house calls the CIA next.

Stop blaming everything on coyotes! You have no proof!
Cat made the calls.

You have Windstream, that's how. They really are the worst utility company I have ever had to deal with. Something this bizarre does not surprise me in the least.
At my previous house we had underground telephone wires running through our yard with like 3 junction boxes sticking up out of the ground (or whatever they are called). A few years back a county mower hit one with a bushhog. It looked a lot like this but more mangled.

The county called them several times as did I. They never came...ever. It didn't really bother me because I dropped their service years prior but I sure somebody's service was severely degraded by it.

Ehh we've never had too much trouble with windstream. Now TWC on the otherhand
It just seems no matter who you get you're likely to be screwed anyways. AT&T yuck(cell service is iffy here don't know if I'd trust the internet), TWC/Comcast(I doubt the CS has improved since the merge), windstream has moments but still better than most, and google fiber isn't reaching out this way so yeah....

- Just had the steroid injection into my fibrous coalition. Really hope this helps it....physical therapy has helped it somewhat but not enough. Now just to monitor it for the next 2 and half hours then twice daily until I see the doc. This is going to be fun >_>
- really need to flip my desk especially since it would help the room feel more open but the whole "no strenous activity" thing puts a halt to that right now. Guess I'll just be going over various vids so I have a guided wishlist when going into stores, amazon or ebay once I start working more. That and finish my english paper that's due tommorrow at lunch time...

I primarily use Windstream for their DSL service. It's the only half decent internet available where I live, faster than a cellular modem or a satellite modem. If fiber ever becomes possible here, I'll jump on it. The company might suck, but the service guy who works our area is a pretty decent dude. He gave me his cellphone number so I could bypass the corporate robot menu.

Don't feel bad. I've done the same thing answering the door with a .357 magnum hidden behind it. I don't care who it is, knock on my door after 10pm, I'm taking precautions.

If you have decent cellular reception at home, maybe see if you can ditch the landline phone altogether? Perhaps your local service guy can set you up with a dry loop if Windstream does not officially offer it.
