Because things are global and we're a 24 hour society. The 'original' reasoning for farmers that was always said (which I think is actually untrue) is BS. I'm pretty sure they get up before or when it gets light for things that matter. It isn't like the animals or the plants pay attention to the time when they wake up. The reasoning for saving electricity doesn't seem like it works to me since many businesses aren't 9-5 anymore. Street lights are on when it is dark, doesn't matter the time. Heh, yeah I had to stop my replay of OoT earlier this year, via Gamecube on my HDTV through AV... looked like someone just smeared poop on my screen.
