Have you played the original? It seems pretty nice so far. The graphics are lovely on the Switch too.

I've got Octopath Traveler coming next week too. Damn, it's a really busy time to be a Switch owner. I was tempted by the Crash N'Sane Trilogy and Ys VIII, but I know I just don't have the time for either.

And this is anything but a bad thing after so so many years of Nintendo disappointment stretching through both things Wii. It has been a long time on a Nintendo console when you had to pick and choose and hope to come back to things later. The last sure fire time was the Gamecube during its life which is kind of sad, but at least it's remedied and hopefully for a long time to come too.

The Wii had enough good games to keep most folks’s queues full. It just also had lots of crap, meaning filtering was an issue.

I'm not necessarily surprised that they might not have played much of the (Shin) Megami Tensei franchise, Breath of Fire V, or many PC based JRPGs; What I can't believe is that there are any Japanese game developers who have never played any Dragon Quest games before. It's practically heresy.

I can't speak for the Wii in its prime, as I opted for a PS3 that generation instead (and I was late in general tbf), but retrospectively I really enjoyed getting into the Wii after its death. Basically, as a Wii U owner, I bought old Wii games I had missed to fill the droughts in the Wii U's release schedule and I found a lot of great games.

Wii was fine as a primary console during that time - that is how I operated. Like Marurun said, it was just a game of filtering. My only regret with the Wii is that they did not release a more powerful version half way through its life that did HD out. All the Wii needed is better antiailising, as proven by emulation, and it would have been ideal.

For me the Wii after a short while ended up like almost the N64 did. There were a smattering of games every few months or so I'd have a desire to play, some to fill space, and others I really wanted to commit to. Ultimately it led me to the PS3 to fill the gap, just like N64 made me go multi-console and snap up a Duo in the 1990s. Neither (N64 or Wii) a bad system really, but it in both cases just lacked. I don't feel that way about the Gamecube until it's later years nor the Switch in its days now. I could see the system sustain and breed into better stuff as their handhelds go like the DS-3DS-New3DS model -- or Gamecube out with like 3 years of solid games and then the back end being many cancellations yet still good stuff but less often leaving time gaps. Given the modular design of the guts being pop in and out parts I'm more inclined to see it go the route of upgrades to the X2 and more RAM etc like the 3DS to New3DS made the jump.

I finished the Wii era with easily 70 games and never really struggled to find something new to play.

The Gamecube era definitely had more dry spells.
