Because "having both" is SMB Deluxe, which isn't on the GCN.

We don't have the Metroid Prime games, despite them being defining GCN experiences. Why? Metroid Prime Trilogy.

We don't have most of the RE games, despite them being defining GCN experiences. Why? Ports elsewhere that offered enhanced versions.

We don't have Tales of Symphonia, despite being one of the best GCN RPGs. Why? PS3 collection of multiple Tales games in HD.

We still have a Super Monkey Ball game on the list. Why, when everything from the any GCN SMB game appears with more stuff on two other platforms? No good reason.

I say put SMB1 and 2 both in Honorable Mention with other "ported elsewhere and better" games and put Baten Kaitos into the top 30.

Dave, seriously not trolling: back when we did Monkey Ball for TR I picked up Deluxe on PS2 and remember feeling like the analog controls were "off" from the GameCube games. I can't recall what it was specifically, but I feel like it was that the analog sticks on PS2 were more sensitive than on GCN, so just barely touching them sent yr monkey flying. Again, not trolling at all. Curious if you noticed this or if you had even played the GCN version recently enough to feel like they controlled differently or if it was all in my mind.

This isn't trolling. It is a common complaint about that game. The analog controls in SMB Deluxe are really bad, and given how important analog controls are to the game, this is a good reason to consider the GC versions the definitive.

On car rides (where I'm not driving of course) I love Sega Smashpack and Capcom Classics.

If ports are allowed, I'd vote for these.

Did you mean to put this in the GBA thread? Only way to play these on a Gamecube is with a Game Boy Player.

Am I the only one who owns the Xbox version which doesn't have the PS2's problems?

Is it better? I only have the PS2 version, but I intend to pick up the Xbox version at some point.

Yeah, doing some more reading it seems like the GCN version controls better than the PS2...that is a very different and more valid reason to keep it here given the importance of control in that game.

Unless the Xbox version is better than either. Pep, how does it control compared to the GCN?

As I stated in the other thread earlier the control is slightly in the GCN's favor but not by a far margin like as the PS2. It's mostly due to the GCN's corners making it easier to go precisely straight but it is easier for nuanced movements with the xbox. It really comes down to how you like to play, if you follow the path and play slowly the GCN is the way to go, if you like to speed run and make shortcuts the Xbox controller handles well and sometimes better for me depending on the course and how much correction I need to make after falling. Mini game wise there is hardly any difference I can see and my scores are about the same. The PS2 version is definitely the worse in the the control and graphics department.

With all the original courses plus extra courses, all mini games with more options it's hard to say the GCN is the best version when the xbox control is in only some instances marginally worse and I think that has to due more to me playing the GCN ones a lot before buying Deluxe and having to learn to play slightly differently.

Either way my high scores are close enough on both versions that I can't say that the GCN version is clearly superior control wise. If I was to recommend some one Monkey Ball who has never played before, it would be the Xbox Deluxe version.
