Thanks! I have been very fortunate this month, and some trades and eBay sales have really lowered out-of-pocket costs. I am also starting up a 2600 collection, which means that I am still acquiring a lot of very inexpensive games. Once my 2600 collection is a little stronger, I suspect that it will be very difficult to continue adding games at my current pace.

Now I can actually play the game instead of living vicariously through the guide I found months ago at the thrift store....Though, I should probably finish off a couple backlog games and play the first two games on the Game Boy before I start this one

You should start it right now. DQIII is my favorite 8-bit RPG, and it is one of the best - if not the best - game on the GBC (which is saying quite a bit).

Once I have built up a solid collection of cheap Atari games, I think I'll turn my focus to the
homebrew scene. There are some amazing looking titles out there.

Since people are showing off their piece of the hobiestang find.....

I was able to snag an Amiga CD32. It's in fantastic shape - almost looks like it's never been played.
Just for kicks, I tested it out on a Commodore monitor....... apparently I didn't have the colors turned on though.
I'm really digging the design of the console and the controller.
Only downside is that it's gonna be tough to find games for this... I'm probably going to have to buy them individually off eBay. Think I'd like to start with Battletoads, Heimdall 2, and Zool 2, and then go from there.
Next up: finding a regular Amiga computer... And a VIC-20...

prfsnl_gmr wrote:How is Thor (NDS)? I have been thinking about picking that game up for some time.
I FINALLY got the game in the mail today. It took so long to get to me that I e-mailed the company I bought if from two days ago. They assumed it was lost in the mail and refunded me. So I essentially got a free game. The ethical part of me says I should contact them and tell them I finally got it. The opportunist in me says I should just take the free game. Decisions, decisions.
Anyway. I played the game for about a half hour. At first I thought Thor was sluggish and weak. As the game began to show me more and more of his moves though, I started to have fun. I can grab a guy and bash an enemy over the head with him, or throw him at someone. I can toss my hammer in any direction, helpful for hitting archers. I can pop an enemy into the air for an air combo. I can also fly up into the sky and bring an enemy up with me, then slam down to the ground and knock out three more enemies. I can smash a pillar, bringing down the archer on top of it and taking out an enemy or two standing under the falling rubble, then throw part of that pillar at an enemy. There's a lot of fun stuff you can do that make you feel like a demi god and enemies seem very bouncy and juggle friendly. I actually bounced an enemy of a wall and juggled him. There's also a super, god-like attack you can do when your energy bar fills up. There are also equipable runes I'm finding with give me upgrades as well.
The game makes good use of both screens as the play field encompasses both of them and when you super jump Thor flies upward into the top screen to reach high ledges and any enemies that are on them. Sometimes he'll bash his head through a ledge and knock down an enemy standing on it.
There was one cool little gameplay segment I ran into where one of your comrades (the female warrior from the movie) gets knocked out. Thor picks her up to take her to Odin for healing. This turns off all your combat abilities. So you basically have to run away from enemies. As you do so, there's some platform hopping you have to. Some enemies on high ledges will try and drop boulders on you that you have to avoid, allowing them to hit the enemies chasing you. You'll also run into some NPCs who will engage your pursuers to get them off your back. It's a fun and creative gameplay segment that I enjoyed.
The graphics are nice, like a good 16-bit title. The music also sounds like something out of the 16-bit era. It's very retro
I just got to the first boss before I had to stop playing. He looked pretty damn big. I've heard many of the bosses take up both screens

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate - Been enjoying this on rental from Gamefly, so I decided to just purchase it from them

Have you played RE yet? I was thinking about getting a Circle Pad Pro before I played this.

I'll probably pop it in when I finish either Mirror of Fate or Rhythm Thief, both of which are hogging up my 3DS time. I think I'm on the last chapter of Mirror of Fate actually, so won't be too much longer(I've also been messing around with Wayforward's Thor on my regular DS). The guy at Gamestop was like, "That's good. Everyone I've talked to likes it". I remember playing a demo for this back when it first came out and it seemed decent enough
Really wish I could find a misprint copy of Revelations. It would be cool to have both the regular version and the misprint.
By the way,
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/03/compa ... -xbox-360/Maybe that will bring some good will back to the franchise after RE 5 and 6
This, by the way, is insane
