Thanks Luke, I hope this is what you meant when you said you wanted more out of the Games Beaten 2011 thread. Its actually a lot of fun to write up these posts, because it makes me really think about what the game was attempting and whether it succeeded. I've said quite a few times around here that I feel all games have something to offer, and I see this as an opportunity to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak, and actually examine what each game offered and where it failed.

Earlier you mentioned that you might get around to playing some Spyro games. I've been looking forward to seeing if you will come to the same conclusions I did, or if your thoughts on the gameplay prove to be radically different. Heh, it's a more intelligent approach to gaming I suppose.

#1. BIT.TRIP RUNNER (Wii)
#2. F.E.A.R. (PC)
#3. F.E.A.R. Extraction Point (PC)
#4. F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate (PC)
#5. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (360)
#6. Espgaluda II Black Label (360)
#7. Borderlands: The Secret Armory of General Knoxx (PC)
#8. Archon Classic (PC) !NEW!

The original Archon is one of favorite games, and this remake from React doesn't disappoint. All the original gameplay is essentially untouched; shifting obstacles in the combat arena, fast-twitch diagonal shots, and all the old spells are still here. You can even switch to the original 8-bit mode and duke it out old-school.

Team play looks like an interesting change of pace that lets up to four players battle at the same time, either in a free-for-all brawl or in 2v2 teams. Sadly, no online play makes me a bit sad considering the people I played with from my childhood are 100+ miles away.

Two other modes I haven't really dabbled with too much are Ascension and Invictus. Both allow you to gain XP, level up, and gain new abilities such as secondary attacks, speed boosts, etc.

All in all a superb update with some nice new gameplay modes that I look forward to exploring more. Grade A all the way!

Ack,

You're posting exactly what I was hoping for from all our members. I myself haven't posted a decent Games Beaten 2011 post yet.... Yet!

The thing is, like most endeavors in my life I keep a little journal of my progress. For my sales, I have a journal. For my stand up, I have a journal. For my games beaten, I have a journal. For my sex life..I have a video journal, but I digress.

Like my joke notes, my video game notes are so scatter-brained that it is hard for me to decipher the next day what exactly I wrote the night before.

Case in point, from my games beaten 2011 notebook: Soul Calibur should have been called Skin Calibur. Christ the tits on these chicks. Not that Ivy hasn't always had big tits, but a few of these characters are just bouncing tits with absurdly shaped asses. Nothing wrong with it, but I would like to see more emphasis on a maturing combo control scheme than an emphasis on chick's nipples.
