I haven't watched the Christmas one yet. Fifteen Million Merits was very good, but for my tastes The Entire History of You was better. I prefer when the story skews a little closer to our own reality. That's not to take away from what FMM was trying to say about our digital consumption and the way we trade morals for relative comfort, but the implications are more real to me when the story is only one step out from our level of technology.o.pwuaioc wrote:15 Million Merits is great. The rest are only OK. I did like the Christmas special with Jon Hamm, though.strangenova wrote:I recently started watching Black Mirror. This show is something else. I watched the first three episodes and now I'm skipping ahead to the first episode of season 3.
It's an anthology series, with each episode being a stand alone story and world. The common theme that runs throughout the show is technology and social media's affect on society. Be forewarned that this is dark satire.
So what have you guys been watching lately?

The Christmas one features fairly (some) fairly similar tech to the Entire History of You.
The Playtest episode from season 3 is pretty great with respect to gaming references/etc.

Is anyone else watching GLOW on Netflix? It is tremendous fun, and I have been enjoying it immensely.

Finally watched the first season of Castlevania on Netflix. I enjoyed it. The voices are interesting, and the dialogue bizarre at times but entertaining. My only real complaint is that it seems only tangentially related to Castlevania. Sure, it has Trevor and Sypha and Alucard, but so far there's only been one clearly recognizable creature from the Castlevania bestiary among the demonic hordes. This animation would be just as awesome if it had no connections to the Castlevania universe at all.

Anyone watch the first episode of The Orville with Seth McFarlane?
I have to say that I am surprised. The trailer made it seem like raunchy joke filled Star Trek spoof or parody, it's not. It honestly has more in common with the star trek shows of the mid nineties than family guy. It plays out just like you would expect an episodic trek show to, with the occasional dick joke thrown in.
The most apt description I can think of is a B tier Star fleet ship crewed by regular shmucks. It did have problems, a lot of jokes failed to land and parts of it were kind of boring. But hey even the amazing TNG had two seasons full of cringe episodes before it got its footing. I'm gonna keep watching this one and hope that it develops.

Boy was Defenders a disappointment. And what a waste of Sigourney Weaver. Either she was promised a character she didn't get to play or the money was good enough she just didn't care.
Never watched iron fist but based on his segments in this, the hate was valid. Competent acting til they got to his scenes which were like auditions for a high school play.
I'd be down for a Daredevil/Jessica Jones teamup show though, preferably with Kingpin as the villain, since even though a lot of his scenes were a slog on Daredevil, Vincent Donofrio is fun to watch regardless

There aren't many actors I really love, but I can honestly say that I love to watch Vincent Donofrio act.Jrecee wrote:Vincent Donofrio is fun to watch regardless
I have been watching "The Good Place" lately.

Sharp writing, and a likeable cast. No big belly laughs, but lots of clever jokes that come at you very fast. By the time you catch one joke, they're already onto the next one. This seems like the kind of series that will become more popular as audiences get the chance to re-watch it on streaming services. I recommend it.
Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
Defenders was definitely a crap fest. It's even worse then Iron Fist mainly because they recycled 90% of the villains and made Iron Fist the focus
. They also spent way to much freaking time talking and bitching. I mean how many freaking episodes were they just sitting in that damn Chinese restaurant while other shit played out?
Hopefully they don't manage to fuck up the Punisher he is what made Daredevil season 2 my favorite marvel netflix spinoff yet.
