RPG Progress Report
Re: RPG Progress Report
I have a confession: I have never played a single Ys title. Although I own all the US released games save Celcetta. I want to play them in order, but I don't have a TurboGrafx system.

You are both breaking Bone's heart and filling it with pride right now.Daria wrote:I have a confession: I have never played a single Ys title. Although I own all the US released games save Celcetta. I want to play them in order, but I don't have a TurboGrafx system.

You don't need a TurboGrafx. I'm assuming you have I & II on PSP, then? That's a good place to start.Daria wrote:I have a confession: I have never played a single Ys title. Although I own all the US released games save Celcetta. I want to play them in order, but I don't have a TurboGrafx system.
I've been playing Miracle Warriors (slowly - I am the anti-Popo).
Pretty unique game. The interface is unlike anything I've ever seen.
Navigation is actually done in the top-right area, the d-pad moves that white square which in turns moves the characters around the map.
Top left screen displays the characters themselves, and the background constantly shifts as you move that white square.
Things change up a bit should you get into a conversation or battle:

Ha! That's a good point. Haven't thought about that game in some time...Ack wrote:That view actually reminds me a lot of Drakkhen.
Well, yeah, according to me it is.Daria wrote: I do, but isn't the Turbo version the best?
But don't wait to play Ys. Play it now. It's loads of fun on PSP. Also, these games are short and the ports are pretty varied. So if you did eventually play them on TurboGrafx CD it wouldn't feel like a tedious replay.
Re: RPG Progress Report
Heh, fair enough. Next time I pick up my PSP I'll give Ys Chronicles a try.
I have a feeling the three classic Ys 3 versions aren't very different though. That might get a bit redundant.

@Daria
These are the best of the best IMO:
Ys Origin is the apex of the series.
The TGCD versions have the best music though.
Whatever you do, don't play the Super Famicom Ys games.

PLAY KING'S FIELD.
