Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I'd say I'm thankful for that. It's really hard going back to Goldeneye, etc, on the N64 for me with the framerate and all. Prime on the GC aged really well though.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Here's a thought I had the other day: How are the GTA games any different than the COD games? Obviously besides the fact that one is a sandbox game and the other is a FPS. Also one franchise gets a new 'game' released every year, and the other every 4-5 years, but really how are they different?Opa Opa wrote:Now that GTA V is out will people care about Watch Dogs?
-Both follow the same formula on prior installments, just with a fresh coat of paint and a few changes to characters/story
-Both are hyped to the max
-Both have rabid fanboys
-Every installment usually receives high score reviews
I guess I just don't get the love. Yes, I realize the formula works and therefore it's going to make (lots and lots of) money. They are even fun games (I play both franchises and like them) for the most part. I've played GTA V for about an hour, but so far it's just the same ol' same ol'. No way this is a 10/10 game. I'll play it, I'll like it but....I've done this song and dance before.
Bah, maybe I'm just getting old.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Uh every GTA has had major changes from the start to finish. Sure they use the same basic concepts as far as story goes and presentation for each specific era but there are major gaps between each main entry and they all add something or (many) new and different for the series and usually for gaming in general.

You could replace "GTA" and "Cod" with any other incredibly popular, established franchises.graffix_13 wrote: Here's a thought I had the other day: How are the GTA games any different than the COD games?
The intent of my post was that it seems incredibly poor timing on Ubisoft's part to release their open-world, sandbox adventure game after the undeniable kings of open-world, sandbox adventure games release what probably will be the best selling game for the rest of the year.

I don't play the Zelda games, but at least they change it up a little bit right? I mean, wasn't one of the games cell shaded graphics (Wind Waker IIRC)? Didn't Skyward Sword use the Wii remote as your sword? Subtle changes maybe, but at least they put a different spin on the franchise (again I don't play the Zelda games so I might be talking out of my ass).BoringSupreez wrote:How is GTA any different than Zelda? I'll agree with the Assassin Creed and Bioshock comparison. And I'm not even saying it's a bad thing. These games work and are fun (that's why they sell and make hella $$$).
I guess all this GTA hype irks me because people act like it's the Second Coming. And in some instances these same people bash the COD and Madden games for using the exact same formula.

Madden actually tweaks the engine quite a bit between installments too.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
People get so worked up because of the large amount of time in between each GTA game, along with the fact that it is a series that many (maybe even most) of today's average gamers grew up with and loved. If it came in yearly installments the hubbub wouldn't be so loud.graffix_13 wrote:I guess all this GTA hype irks me because people act like it's the Second Coming. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
One of my favorite things about GTA is that there is no tie to previous games, like Final Fantasy. If I want to skip this one and just play GTA 6, I can. Or if I haven't really beaten any but IV? No big deal.

I understand if you don't like GTA or Call of Duty, but what's wrong with them being sequels?
