PS2 emulation, now thatll be the day
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Not possible. GD-Rom != DVD/CD/BD. It wouldn't be able to read the disc.ZeroAX wrote:If this adds freaking .mkv support AND/OR ps2 backwards compatibility I'm sold.
Kind to think of it, since Dreamcast games are coming to the PSN, you guys think it would be possible to play Dreamcast games on GD-rom on the PS3? That would be cool.
Regarding MKV support, just use PS3 Media Server and copy your MKVs over the network, it auto transcodes them for you. Or just, y'know, play them off your computer...

You never know, people have gotten regular CD-rom burners to read GD-ROM discs before, all they are is a CD with the data packed more linearly and in CAV. As it stands in my head there's no way you shouldn't be able to tell the drive to read that way via software or some other manner such as updating the drive's firmware itself.Niode wrote:Not possible. Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
you could run dreamcast on ps3 considering it once had linux on it. there aare dreamcast emus for it. (i think it would be possible)
You took too long, now your candy's gone. That's What happens. Bkowwwww. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
I'm not debating the possibility of a DC emu. More the fact of running GD-Rs straight from the disc.benderx wrote:you could run dreamcast on ps3 considering it once had linux on it. there aare dreamcast emus for it. (i think it would be possible)
@Puke_face I'm sporting some boxer shorts currently.

Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Speaking of emulation on the PS3, aside from MAME has anyone attempted to port/code anything else? The PS2 is the most popular console of all time and even that didn't help it trump the Dreamcast in terms of homebrew development. I imagine coding for so many SPEs isn't going to be pretty.
As for PS2 emulation I can tell you right off the bat that unless a batshit insane group determines to port PCSX2 to the Cell it's just not going to happen. No eating of briefs or boxers necessary.

Well for the DC it helped that the console ran Windows CE.Pulsar_t wrote:Speaking of emulation on the PS3, aside from MAME has anyone attempted to port/code anything else? Oh I'm good for it. I'm that confident it won't happen. If it does. I will be so happy that I'll eat the pants that I would be wearing at that moment. I'll document the entire thing. In High Definition no less.Hobie-wan wrote:Well for the DC it helped that the console ran Windows CE.Pulsar_t wrote:Speaking of emulation on the PS3, aside from MAME has anyone attempted to port/code anything else?
