I find it interesting that this thread about metal is so contentious and argumentative and the thread from a month ago about Jazz music was quite pleasant and engaging. Seems fitting, no?

Of the two main forms of 'extreme' metal, I would definitely veer more towards the Black Metal side myself.

Thrash Metal is considered "Extreme Metal" too. What Black Metal bands would you recommend? Most of the bands that I come across have crappy recording quality that just makes listening to their otherwise great music a chore.

yes I suppose what I meant and what sets them apart (although of course there are crossover points) is the blast beats and double kicks in general which are far more prevalent in BM and DM

Allow me to add something, its sort of an oddball choice but they are in the way related to these bands, no its not from Norway, not Sweden, UK? not even close, I talking about Japan's finest, Sigh. They have always been my favorite, you maybe saying "how are they in anyway related?", simple, they where signed by the late Euronymous of Mayhem's label "Death-Like Silence Productions"

Honestly, I perfer there later material, like stuff from Scenario IV, Imaginary Sonicscape, and there recent album...Hangman's Hymn. Mainly because they found there own sound, and they are more experimental.

i try to be pretty democratic about music tastes, understanding that lots of different people like lots of different things, but honestly, if you like any type of heavy music at all, and can't recognize reign in blood as a seriously essential thrash record, you are either horribly misguided or you are partially deaf in a way that distorts all sound into the sound of two horses fucking each other.

Ok anyone that is even mentioning specific bands in this thread is wasting everyone's time. As we've seen, the second you mention one you like, and form some kind of argument around them, someone else will tell you they suck. Just knock it off.
