Okay, here's an idea.
A) Smash TV
B) Action, Action, ACTION!
C) Needs to be styled after 80's action flicks (old school Arny & Stallone) with a hefty dose of campiness and Robocop styled Zeerust (stuff that would've seemed "futuristic" by 80's standards but is just silly by modern standards). So, Robocop meets First Blood meets The Running Man beaten with a silly stick... or something. Trying to make a serious video game movie is hazardous, so just go for all out action & cheesy goodness!
D) Not sure who'd be in it, as I'm not up on modern actors. We'd need two guys to play our hapless heroes, the most cheesy annoying guy they can get to play the host of the show ("BIG Money, BIG Prizes... I LOVE IT!!!", "I'd buy THAT for a dollar!" Also, you have to stuff this guy in the tackiest suit you can find, the uglier the better.) and a large cast of drones to fill the crowd and serve as cannon fodder.
Honestly I'm a bit surprised this didn't happen during the first glut of video game movies in the late 80's-early 90's.
Also, not going into the full details... a film or animated series based on No More Heroes could be cool. It'd need Kill Bill styled action sequences, shifting between a serious action tale and goofy otaku-parody. It'd need a guest spot from the best Puroresu star (Japanese pro wrestler) to be Travis' mentor.
Oh, and if Sam & Max ever got an animated (HAND DRAWN, none of that CGI stuff) movie, you know I'd see it.
If you could make a film based on your fave game(s)....
The Rock and John Cena as the heroes.Elwood wrote:Okay, here's an idea.

Bruce Campbell OR Jeffrey Combs as the host. Neither are cheesy enough, but they both have charisma, the kind that makes them overqualified to play a game show host.
And what about a subplot similar to the one from The Running Man with that girl trying to uncover the conspiracy behind Ben Richard's so-called "massacre"?
I wanna do a new Mortal Kombat film trilogy based on Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon, respectively and in that order. It'd be a less cheesy version of the first MK movie (NOT the second one). And IDK about the cast.
Also, a Legend of Zelda movie. Think LotR-lite. And the cast would be an unknown actor as Link, and same for Zelda. I'd also like to see Hugo Weaving as Gannon.
And I can't believe no one has said:
* Half-Life (wait... did anyone say that yet?)
* Perfect Dark, with Keira Knightley as Joanna Dark
* Mega Man. Get Tobin Bell as Dr. Wily, Malcolm McDowell as Dr. Light, and Elle Fanning as Roll.
And WTF? No love for Carmen Sandiego? Get Idina Menzel (Wicked, RENT, Enchanted) as Carmen Sandiego. The plot for the first film would have a high-ranking ACME agent constantly going head-to-head with Carmen, only to be met with the possibility that Carmen is... HIS MOTHER?? And the second one would be a direct sequel, based on Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego. And there'd be no third movie, cuz then they'd have to go into space (cuz Space is the only game that could follow Time, and the only game to start the series is World). And we all know what it means when a series makes the jump into space. The movies would be a mix of Da Vinci Code, National Treasure, Charlie's Angels, and a few other films, while still retaining the spirit of the games and a PG rating.
Also, Sonic the Hedgehog. The first movie would be based on the events of Sonic 1, Sonic CD (which I assume is either a prequel to Sonic 1 OR takes place between Sonic 1 and S2), and Sonic 2. The second would cover Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. And the third one would be an original story taking place some time post-"Sonic Adventure 2" and feature all the characters uniting with Eggman to stop a resurrected Chaos God. IDK about cast yet, but I've been considering Christian Campbell as Sonic, Freddie Highmore as Tails, and Malcolm McDowell as Eggman. The movies would be CGI animation superimposed over traditional animation (similar to the rotoscoping techniques used in the old Bakshi adaptation of Lord of the Rings, but with CGI/traditional animation).

I always thought that Phillip Andrew should play the Prince. I mean, he looks EXACTLY like the Prince, especially when he was on Power Rangers Wild Force. He played Merrick.Gamerforlife wrote:Okay, this definitely relates to this topic:

Re: If you could make a film based on your fave game(s)....
I'm working on a concept for a Twisted Metal movie. It's not based on any TM film, but is rather a new look on the TM universe, which is good cuz the games have a wonky timeline. I'll be featuring a mix of fan favorite characters (Sweet Tooth, for one) and a few original characters, one of the latter being the main character.
Other notes:
* The current list of game characters I wanna use, aside from Calypso, are Sweet Tooth, The Preacher, Mr Grimm, and Outlaw (the TM2 version, Jamie Roberts), to name a few.
* My version of Sweet Tooth will not be based on any version of the character. At press time, he'll be sort of a mix between Freddy Krueger and Captain Spaulding from House of 1000 Corpses.
* My version of Calypso will also be a much different figure. Right now, I'm considering a man in a black/red three-piece suit, a blood-red fedora, and a white mask over what is actually a flayed skin (remember Dent from "The Dark Knight"? Think that by way of the TM1 version of Calypso from the unused endings). I'm considering someone who can be both psychotic yet gentle and a type of two-faced happiness, like maybe John Cameron Mitchell.
* My main character is an OC. He doesn't have a name yet, but he does already have an origin story. He is a teenager raised by his grandfather in a smaller-than-small town in the southwest. He longs to escape his doldrums, but is often teased by the other kids at the rather small school (so small that K-12 all uses the same classroom) and berated by his grandfather. In an act of desperation, he kills his grandfather and sets fire to his roadside diner. He then torches the town, which is about the size of a standard shopping mall, and escapes in a stolen pick-up. He finds himself in Los Angeles, where he is left penniless and destitute... until a chance encounter with Calypso. He offers him the means to compete in the Twisted Metal tournament and says that anything he wishes for will come true if he wins. But what is Calypso's REAL interest in this random kid? Is he really a silver lining, or a two-faced viper?
* The current ending will set things up for what I hope will be a trilogy.
