How the hell do you people sleep at night?
I have perfected the art of falling asleep at work. Every break time, head on desk, think of nothing and then BAM! POWERNAP!
Technically, for an hour a day, I get payed to sleep.
Plus there was the time we took a day trip to the Rolls Royce factory (we make the seats so we went to check out the place where they make the cars), I slept most of the way there and back. I got payed to sleep for about 5 hours that day. Best work day ever!
On a serious note: I've heard getting out of bed and doing something else for a while helps you sleep. Being in bed and really trying to sleep doesn't work, you have to be relaxed. The longer you are in bed and unable to sleep, the more stressed you get. More stress=less sleep.
Or something like that. Read it somewhere.

God damn I hate the internet.
I can vouch for Benadryl (although, didn't they change the formula?)Flak Beard wrote:If I can't sleep, I just take a Benadryl. It's non-addictive and works better than stuff like Tylenol PM or regular sleeping pills.
So yeah, take a Benadryl and think about EVE Online. That'll put anyone to sleep.
I kinda forgot about that. I've used it a couple of times after flying from MI to CA and back)
My brother also had sleep problems and used them regularly.

I don't get enough sleep. I work 7 days a week as well, start every day at 8 am, mon - fri its 8 - 5:30 then sat and sunday its 8 - 1pm.
I do a very demanding job but it just as someone else said tires me out p[hysically but doesn;t help me sleep.
Sex doesn't help either I get it everyday without fail from the mrs and it helps her to sleep after it as it tires her out more so now shes pregnant and also shes roasting so I end up comign through here to sit and look on ebay etc.
As someone else said you lie there thinking I could be doing something constructive or your worrying about the fact yours lives crap and your screwed! lol

I'm surprised only one person mentioned meditation so far. Learning how to still your mind makes a huge difference. You stay awake because you can't stop thinking. Meditation is a state of non-thought. Problem solved.
Physical exertion is a good one too (probably why sex works for some people).
I also heard the same thing as goaferboy - if you can't sleep, get out of bed, do something else, then try sleeping again.
I read somewhere marijuana deteriorates the quality of your sleep (prevents deep sleep cycles). So while you may be able to nod off, your body isn't getting fully rested. I guess it beats staying up all night and some of my friends swear by it, but I just find I wake up groggy and tired.

Needing or demanding sex every night from your female friend to fall asleep is an abusive of power in my opinion. As for needing sex everyday, I am pretty sure that is dependency man. I mean, I don't blame anyone for being addicted to sex cuz trust me, sex by itself is as addictive as any drug known to man.opticledilusi0n wrote:sexual abuse ?!peace4myheart wrote:I also don't recommend illegal drugs (I think people were just joking around, but I think it was in bad taste), alcohol, or sex because of the dependency and abuse issues as well.
sexual dependency ?
what what ?
oh man ... sex every night makes me a sexual dependent or sexually abusive ?

Ok, first off anything that you take to go to sleep can be habit-forming, legal, illegal, or whatever. Second off, definitely try exercise, but it never works for me. I had a bad, bad habit of taking nyquil when I was in middle/high school to go to sleep (bottle every two weeks or less). So if you want any kind of advice I would suggest marijuana, it might be illegal, it might be a drug, (like nyquil, alchohol, benadryl, etc.) but it works, and is fully legal to use for that purpose in several states and most of Canada (with a prescription!). Sorry, but it has less of a chance of habit formation than ambien or anything else like that. If the legality of such a thing bothers you use alcohol or pills like the rest of the nation.

i agree, also where have all you stoners come from, no offense but sheesh. The only stuff ive ever had to help me sleep is NiQuil. Also the only "drug" ive really takin was medicinal cocaine for my bronchitis. My opinion on weed is, why take something to make me "giggly" and lazy and hungry when i am anyway without drugsracketboy wrote:I wish I could stay awake longer....
My main challenge on a regular basis is keeping my energy level high enough to get all the stuff done that I want to.
Power naps followed by a bit of caffeine is my best bet.
also try masterbating, puts me right to sleep if i cant.
Older. Not wiser.

why has no one mentioned reading books? moz, find yourself a nice instructional book... you should be asleep in no time at all
jazz or instrumental frank zappa at very low volume helps me as well. music without vocals tends to relax me more, so it could be worth a shot if you're really having trouble. but seriously, BOOKS!
