Just gonna toss out there that, coming off of the sublime Shinobi III, Shinobi Legions must have felt like pure trash.
With the benefit of hindsight... well, it's not great, but it certainly doesn't live up to its predecessor in any way. I got tired of playing it after like 30 minutes. I'll come back to it a bit later; there is a stage select code, so I don't have to worry about losing all my progress.

Re: Together Retro: FMV Frenzy
Shinobi Legions is intended to be a sequel to Revenge, and the game is paced to reflect that. I own Revenge, 3, and Legions and I like them all for their unique qualities.

Like Ack, I'm playing Phantasmagoria. Just finished Chapter 1 (of 7). So far, nothing really scary yet, just your typical point-and-click. But I suspect things will start slowly ramping up soon. It did take me a couple tries to figure out how the game wants me to thoroughly examine things, but I think I've got the gist now.
I just installed the game and got started, so I am still only in chapter 1. I've found matches and a fire poker, but beyond a little exploring to get my bearings, I was focused on just testing to ensure everything works. I also took a few minutes to understand how the game wants me to interact, and I'm still not sure on using items because I haven't had a reason to that I have found yet. I look forward to exploring more of the game.
I do wish there were subtitles though.

Re: Together Retro: FMV Frenzy
Alright folks, it took some self sacrifice and determined effort, but I managed to beat my very first FMV game for this TR.
It's Double Dragon for the Neo Geo.

I know. Neo Geo. Ugh. I really didn't want to have to play Neo Geo games this month.
But you have to suck it up sometimes and just go with the FMV flow.

So yeah, this is a '90s game with live actor FMV clips in it...

What in the world was Technos thinking putting FMV in a Neo Geo game?

Well, it's complicated.
It really stinks that I had to play a Neo Geo game this month. I definitely took one for the team here guys.
Well now that this crap is out of the way, there's four more games in my April TR queue.
Surely my next FMV game will be better!
I hope.

Seems like this image sums up your reaction to losing. Way to participate with a game with less than a minute of FMV relegated to movie clips. You really are an ass.

An ass you say? But the game I just beat meets the rules perfectly sir:
Elkin von Curator wrote:The criteria for this month are simple:
1. The game must have at least some live-action full motion video be it a cut scene or digitized actors.
2. The game must have a release date (in any region) between January 1, 1990 and December 31, 1999.
It's unfortunate you do not approve of my first FMV game, to the point of insulting me over it.
Well, four more to go. Maybe the rest of my choices shall fit your personal approval. I hope so buddy!

Indeed, rules are rules. No sense calling someone names for it. This is supposed to all be in good fun!
Anyway, through a lot of tribulation, I have arrived at the last level of Shinobi Legions. Hopefully I can finish it up tomorrow night, assuming the final boss isn't ridiculous.

Kalooh Kallay! FMV month is here to stay!
I'm going the bone route and playing a WRPG, but I've put my sights on Lands of Lore 2: Guardians of Destiny. It's installed on my laptop now. Will have to report back on gameplay later.
I've played a good bit of Stoneskeep. I hope you have fun with it Bone. I rather liked it, though it feels a little clunky in this modern age.

Yeah your picks ex are in the rules but are not in the spirit. Picking a game that has less than a minute of FMV sequences that are movie clips does nothing to contribute to the conversation, seems derisive of the point of together retro. Sure, you can keep playing games like that, but what are you really doing to contribute besides looking like a petty kid who is mad neo geo didn't win.
It's supposed to be together retro not, "I didn't approve of this pick so I am going to ridicule it." That's just not in good spirit. It sucks the fun out of it for folks who are excited about it.

I think Exum's pick is fine. It's within the description of the theme. And as I stated back when I was running the FF Spin-Off thread, sometimes what makes these picks interesting is seeing how each player decides to fit the theme within their own gaming schedule. I mean Exum has at least found a way to participate this month, which is more than I can say for myself.
Anyway, it's hilarious that there's a Neo Geo game with Scott Wolf in it. And it looks like Marian there is modeled after Alyssa Milano - is she "in" the game as well?
