I have had a chance to see some side-by-side comparisons of 1080p and 4K. I could definitely tell then. But otherwise, I don't think it matters very much on most screen sizes at a reasonable difference from the screen.Sarge wrote:4K isn't all that, anyway. I've got a 4K screen, sure, but I like it because of clean scaling of 720p and 1080p content. Heck, even 480p content from stuff like the PS2 looks great, far better than my old 720p Sony set.
(That Sony set is also awesome for retro gaming compared to other LCDs, so it ain't goin' anywhere.)
I am much more impressed with HDR (I think?) technology. The color depth is really impressive and I would like to have a TV that supports it at some point - of course, the content (game, movie, etc) also has to support it or it doesn't actually do anything, but still.
That said, if our TV went out today I would probably buy a 4K screen just because... that's a lot of what's out there now and it's going to get to a point where it's hard to NOT buy one.
