That's the big thing is pretty much every third party exclusive that the XB1 gets is just a timed exclusive. Plus there is the fact that they are pushing for pretty much every in house exclusive to also be available on PC so from here on out exclusives that don't also launch on PC are probably going to be slim.

Unless Scorpio really turns things around they the pump out a lot of content specifically for it the Xbox is going to become pretty much pointless and might as well be a cheap gaming pc alternative.

I feel like those of us in this kind of community don't realize some of the perks of a console for some people.

For $250 you get:
Something that will play games on your TV (which everyone has).
Something that will play blu-rays and 4k blu-rays, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.
Something that will play games and movies with Dolby Digital or DTS 7.1 Surround Sound (and support for Atmos is coming I think)
Something that has a community of your friends
Something that has easy online multiplayer

Yes, all of this can be duplicated on a PC, but not easily and not at $250.

Yes, all of this. I also like that if you have multiple Xbox Ones in your household (which I do), they can essentially share a digital game library. I use this feature all the time to play multiplayer games with my son.

Don't get me wrong I'm primarily a console gamer now since I got fed up with shitty DRM, lousy port jobs, and on occasion dead/crippled multiplayer on PC. I love PC especially for larger multiplayer games but it's so much easier to just go with a console that's why I mostly buy newer stuff on PS4. I have my PS4, XB1, PS3, 360, Wii, Wii U, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, Retron 5, N64, and Genesis/32X hooked up next to me so I'm by no means dishing them.

All I'm saying is Microsoft is kind of doing a lousy job claiming their space in the home console market and unless they shift their goals around once the Scorpio comes out I don't see much reason for them to hang around. With their focus on releasing cross platform with PC they might as well just shift their business model to making budget PCs similar to the steam boxes that are geared towards gaming on the Windows 10 platform as opposed to having a separate market with the Xbox.

As for the media center stuff I still prefer the PS3 from a value perspective if you want bluray/DVD with your streaming. If your just streaming the Wii is a great little media box for sub $20 at most pawns as well. If you want 4k bluray then a S model might be a good value but that isn't a major selling point for many people at the moment.

I think what they've done is started to create a broader ecosystem. Their "play it anywhere" titles are all tied to the Windows Store so you have to buy into that ecosystem to play them on PC. Eventually, you'll build up a library. Then, when you have a use-case for a console, you'll be more inclined to buy the MSFT one that can play all the games you already own. Same goes the other way too. If I've bought a bunch of Xbox games and want to buy a computer, I'm more inclined to buy a Windows PC that can play all these games I already have on my Xbox. It's basically the iTunes/Google Play model applied to PCs and consoles.

Okay, I didn't mean it literally.

I guess, here's what I would say... if you already have a PS4, good PC, Wii U, etc and whatnot, with an extra gold brick laying around you can drop on an X1, then yeah I don't think that's a terrible idea and could easily get some use for fleshing out your entertainment setup even more.

In noise's case though, if you don't have all those checkboxes filled and a PS4 ... the X1 would be the last thing I'd consider getting personally. Just doesn't seem worth it at all with how much more mileage you can get with the PS4 to do mostly the same stuff and a vastly bigger library. Even if the exclusives or Japanese stuff isn't enticing at a glance, you at least have the additional options.

Maybe the X1 controller lasts longer than two hours though? That could be a plus.

Some people like myself... just want to watch the Xbox brand burn. :P

I really want to play Halo 2 remastered, but that's it. Looks like I'll be able to get everything and more on the PS4/PC from here on out instead. Maybe the Master Chief Collection will hit PC eventually.

If the X1 could ultimately support my entire 360 library and migrate over my massive XBLA digital library, I think that could convince me to take the bite.

Have you looked at that list recently? There's quite a bit of awesome titles from those libraries now.

No... to be annoying, I just feel too lazy to double check what I own and might want, and what is backward compatible.

It does sound like they really are working on getting it at 100% though.
