Play THIS if you can't play THAT
Re: Play THIS if you can't play THAT
I want to play the sequel to Sin & Punishment, but I don't have a Wii. Any suggestions?

The closest thing j can think of to Sin and Punishment would be Wild Guns for SNES. It's amazing, but pretty pricy so a wii with S&P2 is probably a lot cheaper! A remastered version is in production now that will probably come out on PC though! Nam 1972 or whatever it's called for Neo Geo looks similar too, but I've never played it. Should be super cheap on various Neo geo collections though!

Gradius V for PS2 is similar in gameplay and tone. Both are developed by Treasure.

Sin & Punishment 2: Star Successor is the greatest rail shooter ever made, so trying to think of an alternate equivalent is tantamount to disappointment. (I'm really not being a smart ass here, I'm dead serious.)
But I guess you could try other high quality rail shooters like the Panzer Dragoon series, or these:
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: Play THIS if you can't play THAT
I have played through Wild Guns and Nam 1975 in the past. I love them both. I've also played through Blood Bros. and Cabal, which are also similar. I have Gradius V, and I love it, but it is different gameplay, though I can see the similarity in tone and need for dexterity.
Project Horned Owl and Elemental Gearbolt I have never heard of though, so those look like good options for something new in this vein.

As far as Slayer goes... The Ultima Underworld games are similar - not to mention much better. Actually you could say the same applies to Towers II.
The King's Field games for Sony consoles are also spoken highly of.
So looks like Deathkeep Windows 95? I'm familiar with DOS box but no experience with any virtual W95.
Towers II is W95 also. I should look into that bc I can't justify the $100 purchase on the Jag for a game that Telegames still produces annually (in small quantities) & don't see me getting into ST or Falcon (although they intrigue me).
Ultima is on my to further reseach/to play list. Kind of overwhelming on where to start.
I have SNES mouse & can throw Eye of the Beholder on my SD2SNES. The novelty of playing that on a SNES, with a mouse is enticing lol.
There is also Stonekeep, which is a first-person dungeon crawler too, which is an awesome game. Also it's on GOG, so nothing to fiddle with for settings: https://www.gog.com/game/stonekeep.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Stonekeep is awesome!
If it's first person dungeon crawling you are after, then also check out Legend of Grimrock and/or its sequel. Also, the Lands of Lore games are also worth looking into.

Will eventually move opinions to RPG subforum. Enjoyed the first battle. I really like the art style & gameplay mechanics so far. Will be diving in further, reading up & playing, throughout week (for RPGs, I get a little OCD about understanding all the stats).
Win for the thread!
Solid.
Did I mention that Lucienne's Quest is actually a Microcabin game as well? Sadly they don't have any other traditional JRPGs released in English.
Their flagship series is Xak (action-RPGs), though none of those games were released in the States. That series is directly modeled off Ys Book I & II (aka best game ever).

It's worth noting that a few Xak games were fan translated into English. The first one can be a bit hard to find (I've got in my archives if anybody is really interested). But part II and III are bit easier to come across:

Re: Play THIS if you can't play THAT
Actually, the patch for the first Xak appears to be back on romhacking.net. But yeah, they were tough to find for awhile. I had mine sent to me by someone on the Ys forums a couple of years back.
From what I recall there was a group called Woomb(?) who was actually producing physical MSX2 disks in English. So they didn't want the patches hosted all over the 'net.
Now that I think of it, I remember some similar (but way more intense and ongoing!) drama regarding the release of the Ys PC game translation patches. They were supposed to be hosted on one specific website - that of the ROM hacker(s) - and available only for those who made a small donation. But of course they leaked all over the place. Then the shitshow really got started when XSEED elected to use said patches rather than create their own.
What was I talking about again?
Oh yeah, Xak is an amazing series. Consoles ports are relatively easy to find, save the uber-rare Game Gear port of Fray.
