Mario World is the only installment that had really successful ghost houses, yeah.

Most of the "puzzles" in the newer games basically amount to remembering which doors need to be avoided because they transport you backwards.

I tried playing Rayman Legends earlier and wasn't feeling it.

Nintendo platformers have ruined me.

I really liked Legends on the PS3, but I felt it dragged too long. It's funny of me to say it, but I felt it had too much content, and thus I couldn't finish it.

I rarely 100% games nowadays, even as much as I may enjoy them. So I know the feeling. Both DKCR, TF, NSMB U, Mario 3D World, etc are all perfect examples. Loved collecting what I could, but I didn't really go out of my way to 100% them when I was ready to move on.

That said I got to the main special worlds in 3D World, which felt like the second half of the game. I think I only had a level or two left, but yeah.

What's TF?

Well I don't think I won't have much time for other games with the game I just pre-ordered. (be on the lookout for my next Wii U thread ;)

I definitely have to disagree with you there. The tightest platformers I've ever played in my life. DKC Returns is terrible in this regard IMO; Wiimote makes it very imprecise and I always accidently do the roll move with the waggle just by moving it too much. Haven't played Tropical Freeze.

Are you in a monster truck on a track while playing with the Wiimote?

I also found DKCR to have slippery controls, and DKC 2-3 to have pixel perfect controls, so I too was buffled by what you guys were talking about.

My favorite thing about the controls in the previous games was that you could roll of a cliff with the normal attack (best case for this was Diddy's Kong's cartwheel) and then for a split second still be able to jump. This was a really skillful move to pull off and it gave you great momentum. Perfect platform game design if you ask me :)

I agree 100%.

Easily the best side scrolling Mario since World on SNES (Not counting Yoshi's Island, of course)

I wanted to like this one, but I found it to be a real struggle. Most because Mario felt like he was running through a hummus-molasses mixture. "move faster!" I got the Wii U bundle with Luigi U DLC on the disc. It moved much faster, so I found it much better.

---

DK:TF on the other hand was perfect pace for me. I never felt like it moved too slow of too fast to deal with. The ice levels did make me rage quit once or twice, but I expected that. I tend not to have skill or patience for performers.

The bosses in it were great. Easy to know how to beat, but not easy to actually beat. I wish new DLC focused Nintendo would do something for this game.
