Played with a GameCube controller it feels like another lame remake of every other kart game out there. Played with the wheel it's lighter and sillier - which works really well for a game as random as MarioKart.
Of course, it probably helps that my experience with the game includes a bunch of super cute, Asian college girls hanging out at my apartment to drink and play Wii games. Their preference was clear, and so was mine.

I always argue the range of motion for the two controllers. Do you want to have half an inch in each direction to control your car or would you rather have 6 inches in each direction. The wheel lets me cut my turns so precisely it shaves off so much time.ejamer wrote:Don't know why you guys are so allergic to fun.BoneSnapDeez wrote:This.Fragems wrote:Mario Kart Wii isn't that bad if you are using a Game Cube Controller. My problems with Mario Kart Wii are not centered around the controls. The controls are not an issue for me.Fragems wrote:Mario Kart Wii isn't that bad if you are using a Game Cube Controller. If you try to actually play it with the wheel it's pretty shitty though

PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: That one time where the bonus stuff was better than the
Controller wasn't the issue for me on MKWii. I didn't like the forced use of those annoying bikes on 100cc and I thought a majority of the tracks were just straight up boring. I preferred the DS game by far and it had its own share of problems once you took it online with cheaters and then the horrible AI routines at 150ccs.

Frustrating that Mario Kart does not work with the Logitech Feedback Steering Wheel which only supports four Wii games.Fragems wrote:Mario Kart Wii isn't that bad if you are using a Game Cube Controller. If you try to actually play it with the <motion> wheel it's pretty shitty though

Since the Gamecube Controller is supported for Mario Kart, perhaps a Playstation adapter and PSX driving controller?
Even if in a spoiler the GIF gets loaded; the previous page has 3Mb of the same picture quoted twice! Glad this site does not have active Youtube Video embedding.marurun wrote:On a tangent, this is why I hate animated GIFs. That image right there is almost 1 MB. That's ridiculous, IMO. I would hate to have loaded that post up on my phone when on mobile data because it just isn't worth it.Reprise wrote:Edit: I'm laughing because I agree with you, by the way. It's so true!

On Topic...
Here are some games worth picking up for the bonus features:
Days of Thunder (PS3) - It includes a high definition copy of the movie on the disc!
John Woo presents Stranglehold (PS3) - The "limited edition" - which is not very limited - includes a high definition copy of Hard Boiled.
Top Gun (PS3) - A high definition copy of Top Gun makes this game worth its asking price.
Watchmen: The End is Nigh Parts 1 and 2 - It includes a high definition copy of the movie.

If you buy Shenmue 2 on Xbox, it comes with a bonus Shenmue: The Movie DVD, thus negating the player the pain of searching for sailors in the first game.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

The flip side would be centering and dead zone, wouldn't it? Practically speaking, near any input method has to compensate somewhere to make it usable for humans. A big thing I don't care for with Wiimotes/etc for that kind of application is that (short of a mount or something) it's dependent on the user to hold the thing just so for it to be centered, since there's no mechanism to snap it back there/etc.BogusMeatFactory wrote: I always argue the range of motion for the two controllers. What I'd wonder with Mario Kart and the like is if Nintendo is possibly a bit generous in that correction. Kinda like the prevalence of auto-aim in console FPS, which is made necessary for similar reasons - a tiny spring loaded stick is a lot harder to be precise with than a mouse is.

With extensive time spent using the wii remote for the driving, I can say that there is no real autocorrect. You can really mess things up when driving, especially when entering a drift. If you have it a little tilted to the right when starting the drift on a left turn, you will be drifting the wrong direction.isiolia wrote:The flip side would be centering and dead zone, wouldn't it? The key is understanding how the controller works and practicing. You get a feel for where you are going and what the neutral position is. It really feels natural once you practice with it.
