Re: Nintendo Direct 1/14/2015
Did Nintendo say if physical Wii games that support the classic controller could use the Wii U Game Pad instead? I know they did for the New downloadable Wii games, but I don't know about the physical copies?

I doubt it. Physical games still force the Wii U to run in Wii mode, so the controller won't be supproted.
The new downloads run from the Wii U menu, so it will.

Oh I was absolutely happy about the new Nintendo Direct. New 3DSXL launch date, new amiibo support, Splatoon looks even better, bringing some great Japanese only games to the states, new Fire Emblem, More footage of Xenoblade Chronicles X. Almost everything covered is coming out before the big christmas season so you know more is waiting in the wings. Very happy with this!

No Mother 3 = fail.
But new Fire Emblem looks good. From the trailer it looks like they're taking a more Eastern aesthetic with the weaponry and armor.

I'm VERY satisfied with this direct. Again nothing of value new known to the WiiU which I expected as much, but what did it was all the amazing news around 3DS, the New 3DS, and even the amiibo.
I will admit I find it fascinating they are doing full Wii game buy/direct play downloads to the WiiU. It begs the buyer though to buy another hard drive which stinks for the average joe, but it also gives a larger library potentially to the WiiU given the huge problems it has getting games. To kick it off with Mario Galaxy 2 was smart then backing it up with Punchout and especially MP Trilogy.
They're really blowing that thing out, hopefully they have more games to back the New3DS to announce around, during or after E3 but I think they will.
I really do want New3DS but that lack of new to do is a hold out for me. I know most people won't care or be aware of it early on so I could snap up the thing and then flip the existing red XL I have so that's no issue on cost. I am pissed they're being cheapasses with the AC adapter...really guys? Pay extra to get the plug to bring it to life...fuck you.
The New3DS news on better battery, the head tracking, the lighting auto adjustment, and the rest really pleases me. They announced what was said wasn't happening in Japan, EXISTING Circle Pad games will be able to use the C-Stick on the New3Ds meaning Resident Evil, MGS Snake Eater 3D, Steel Wars(download ver) and others will benefit from that! The look of that upgraded Ace Combat is nice, not sure what I'd pay for it seeing I have the original though, guess it depends.
It was cool they're giving away that free pokemon puzzle game to download next month. And that Puzzle and DragonZ+Mario Ver of P&D on one physical release is something I could totally buy too. I'm still not sold on that Steam game, the tactical turn based stuff makes me nervous yet the action element of it is interesting. I'm pretty hyped about that IRONFALL game as that tech demo has floated around for years now and the tech they pulled off on the old 3DS hardware was stunning to say the least so I'm happy to see a publish man up and get that game out there. Moon Chronicles looks good too, sucks though both are not physical releases.
I wonder if Monster Hunter 4 would be worth it for me personally. I never got 3 but I did like that last one that popped up Ultimate on the PSP some years ago but I never got far in it. Then again maybe I could also look backwards and still try out Fire Emblem Awakening as I don't have it, had it, never played it and let it go due to lack of time.

Re: Nintendo Direct 1/14/2015
You know, most of the things that I wanted from the Nintendo Direct pretty much happened. We got a release date for Majora's Mask, more trailers for Project STEAM, Xenoblade news seems to be hitting hard and more stuff about the Amiibo's (and thank GOD they are going to be making more so hopefully the eBay prices will end).
The only thing I was really upset at was the new Nintendo 3DS XL only. I had my wallet ready for buying an original white one but XL only to be released in the US? My sister has the small one from Japan and it looks so much better then the XL one that when it came over here I would buy one and we were talking about how different face plates we would get but now. I love the faceplate idea since I always like to change up my 3DS to begin with. I already have my Pokemon X & Y Red XL one, there is no way I'm getting one now.

I have an issue with that too. I was wondering the same thing as I really wanted the standard one since the screen sizes are much closer together. Then to find out they're cheaping out on us and removing the power plug that gives it life is a real retail cockpunching on their part. Sure they're only $5/10 (refurb/new) from their own web store but it's the principle of the matter.
That's like buying a PS4, a television, a refrigerator, a laptop, an iPhone/Android phone, and the list goes on with no power cord. WTF!

Re: Nintendo Direct 1/14/2015
I think the mindset is they've reached saturation point with 3DS and it's unlikely to bring in significant numbers of new people at this point in time. So, people buying this likely already own some model of DSi or 3DS already and if they do, they already have the AC adapter.
It was probably done just to make the entire package cheaper, apparently no region has the New 3DS coming with an adapter. But the device is premiering at the current system price. So, it makes sense ... as silly as it seems.

Re: Nintendo Direct 1/14/2015
Valid point, but it also makes you wonder too. Clearly if they're targeting existing people, are they hoping they'd rather throw the old one in a box and let it rot in the dark? Most people I would imagine would just sell the thing off as it has no value unless you need a second one in your home.
I'll sell my red XL I have for this, so I'll have to pop for the plug. At least they're not $20 or more. If I still lived out west this weekend I'd start checking all the flea market booths for a cheap 3DS official plug as stuff like that pops up all the time for a buck or two.
